Northwest Classen has an exceptionally capable science , faculty. Under their inspiration a number of students V have gone on to study and make outstanding contribu- tions to the world. Biological science helps us to ap- preciate man's place in the world of living things. We learn about our own bodies and how they function. We i R can be startled by hundreds of facts about plants and animals. But most important the study of biology will give us an understanding of the scientific point of view that can help us in everyday life. Biology comes from a Greek word bios which means life and logos meaning study. Biology is international, many people in many lands are striving to learn and to discover the facts of life and all have the same problems to solve. Ideas are exchanged and the results are made known for the benefit of all mankind. Hrs. fiwdliflrli' BIIIIVV1' alllil Mr. Infm Ptm'4'n rxumlm' fwlauf life Um! is I0 fn' xlllifmf in ffiolugy. Bugs, oaks and Shocks XY'ithout knowledge of chemistry, life would be re- markably different. From chemistry laboratories come an endless procession of new materials to satisfy our needs and desires. An understanding of chemistry en- ables a student to reason scientifically. The scientist doesn't combine incompatible elements, at least not often. Knowledge of physics is fast becoming vital to all of us. In today's world, which is a totally new one, scientifically speaking, it behooves each of us to be- come aware of the significance of scientific advances if civilization is to survive. Geology puts the student on familiar terms with the earth about him. It is not a subject to be studied for months or years before it can be turned to use. By the time a student has finished the first week of study, he should be better able to understand his surroundings. One must look far below the surface in order to catch the thrill of the majestic forces which have sculptured our earth. The student of geology sees much more than is apparent to the untrained eye. Wlierever one goes, structures of geological interest surround him. To the geologist the world can never be little, dull or common place.
