The project was sponsored by the Board of Education. History paves the path to understanding Miss Blanche Holland, Miss Ophelia Byars and Miss Gladys Shepard consider that science is as vital to society as history. -12- I have no lamp to guide my feet but the lamp of experience. I know no way to judge the future but by the past. An appreciation of HISTORY and WORLD PROBLEMS and ability to understand ourselves and our neighbors, permits us to become better future citizens. Students aware of their nation's heri- tage and the achievements of our forefathers strive to emulate qualities of leadership. At Northwest Classen, American history, World history, World problems, social problems, psychology, government and student govern- ment, train toward intelligently assuming responsibilities and obligations to be met in a new and little known atomic age. We had no lamp of experience to guide us. We are pioneering in a great new educational adven- ture-our own Northwest Classcn. May our efforts establish a firm foundation.

Miss Kathleen Owen and Miss Nona Cowan discuss a busy clay's activities. .-14, A well-rounded physical fitness program is important at Northwest Classen. One year of physical education is required for gradua- tion. The athletic program is designed to train in ideals of teamwork, sportsmanship Stu- dents are encouraged to acquire enough pro- ficiency in individual sports to provide a source of recreation and pleasure after they leave high school. No one sport receives special emphasis. There are classes in team and individual sports. liacilities for the depart- ment, when completed, will include Ll boys and girls gymnasium, tennis courts, baseball, track and football fields, .1 sun and tennis deck and a pool. Intramural sports give each student a Chance to participate in some form of sports.
