Mrs. lla7el Livingston, Mr. Landes Horton, Miss Audrie Alberts and Mrs. Mabel Park discuss points to be highlighted in a book review. The desire to speak, write and read our native language intelligently is the hallmark of a true scholar. Ap- preciation of literature, poetry and drama may seem pretty square to teen-agers of the high school variety, but the experience results in a richer under- standing of books, the world at large, and the ability to judge people. Knowledge is of little use to us if we cannot effectively express ourselves to others. English activities at Northwest Classen afford opportunities in Creative Writing, Newspapering and Yearbook pro- duCti0n, and all forms of Speech Courses, Mrs. Rulaye l,ee 'l'hraslier, Miss Della I.ink and Miss llelen Bourke Miss Katherine Gibson and Mrs. Mabel Knight pause for .1 brief remark admonisli, Shoot us while we're looking pleasant, please! on a recent commentary on education. Themes, Schemes, Dreams Northwest Classen's library beckons all, even those who do not frequent libraries with any degree of regularity. The colorful reading tables, the excellent lighting and the convenient open shelves of books exercise attractions that are hard to resist. Research material is plentiful, and Students have a wide variety of books to choose from for leisure reading or for re- ports. Few high schools in Oklahoma have as extensive reading opportunities. Stack rooms are at the rear and over head. An Oklahoma Room is being developed. Mrs. Alma Doughty, Miss liunice Cockrum, forego their librarian duties just long enough to permit the staff photographer to get them in under the Round Table dead line. -10-
