« ' » l. - Patricia Bray and Susan Peterson qualified as Pre Scholastic Aptitude Test National Merit Semi-finalists early in their senior year. This honor was bestowed on them after their PSAT scores were reviewed because they both placed in the top one-half percentile in Con- necticut. The next step for them was to apply as finalists. The top one-third of the semi-finalists sent their aca- demic grades, PSAT and Scholastic Aptitude Test scores, along with transcripts, to be reviewed. The tran- scripts consist of a form letter much like a college appli- cation, relating their overall interests. Both girls wrote an essay describing themselves and what activities they are occupied with in their free time. These requirements, along with their individual counselor ' s recommendations, were sent in to the judging center along with the fifteen hundred other National Semi-finalists ' applications. The benefits of being a semi-finalist include being eligible for scholarships to the college of their choice and tuition free college education.
