I Most kids have a hara iime aujusting to high school life, but the Mount girls faced a bigger challenge. The changes from a small, private, all-girl high school to a larger, parochial, coed high school must have been insurmountable. But Jean Seroke, Mary Ellen Sullo, Elise Dalton, Tracy Pennington, Brenda Markarian, Penny Forbes, Youngmi Kim, and Ellen Dalton readily adapted. They had to get accustomed to being around a louder environment and more crowded hallways. They found one of the biggest changes to be the much larger size of the classrooms. They felt welcomed when they arrived and demonstrated this acceptance when they fit right in so easily. John Rice We ' re in a revolution, don ' t you know we ' re right? « ' » l. - Patricia Bray and Susan Peterson qualified as Pre Scholastic Aptitude Test National Merit Semi-finalists early in their senior year. This honor was bestowed on them after their PSAT scores were reviewed because they both placed in the top one-half percentile in Con- necticut. The next step for them was to apply as finalists. The top one-third of the semi-finalists sent their aca- demic grades, PSAT and Scholastic Aptitude Test scores, along with transcripts, to be reviewed. The tran- scripts consist of a form letter much like a college appli- cation, relating their overall interests. Both girls wrote an essay describing themselves and what activities they are occupied with in their free time. These requirements, along with their individual counselor ' s recommendations, were sent in to the judging center along with the fifteen hundred other National Semi-finalists ' applications. The benefits of being a semi-finalist include being eligible for scholarships to the college of their choice and tuition free college education.
