Everyone is talking about Norman Bailey! This 6 ft. 5 inch star will definitely leave his imprint on Northwest basketball. Norman started on the varsity team as a fresh- man and has won the M.V.P. award every year since then. Norman has played in H.C.C. tournaments, the state championship, and has also been elected for the all-state second and first teams in his sophomore and junior years, respectively. In the summer of ' 79 he received a special honor when he was selected to attend the Pitts- burg Five Star Basketball Camp. Senior year, as Captain of the team, he continued to display his extraordinary tal- ents. Colleges showed a special interest in Norman, and he was Connecticut ' s most recruited player. The diverse personality of Norman Bailey was reflected in his basket- ball playing. Norman showed his gratitude, generosity, and ability to work well as part of a team. Norman plans to continue playing basketball in college and possibly play- ing in the pros. However, if the pro ' s do not come his way, Norman feels his education is strong enough to rely on. In whatever path he chooses, we know he will find suc- cess. Iris Anita McKinney Wish me luck Band. Track. Stacie Therese McMahon Specie, Space Cadet. Sandy is a person who constantly works to capacity at everything she does. She holds a very prestigious posi- tion as president of the National Honor Society. Sandy won the Outstanding Negro Student Award for her exceptional performance on her S.A.T ' s. Sandy is not gifted with just brains however, as her classmates elected her Queen of the Junior Prom. Other exploits of Sandy involve her in a tutoring program for Hartford youths, an active member of Girl ' s Leader Club, a co- chairperson of the Student Assistant Committee and the co-editor-in-chief of the yearbook. Sandy certainly has made her four years at Northwest beneficial to herself and to her fellow students. 43

As though the required time was not enough, she went beyond that and became a volunteer and continued on to get a part-time job there. Her reasons for staying were because she became attached to certain people and she found the entire experience very rewarding. Hav- ing a definite interest in nursing, she continued this same type of work throughout most of the summer. Carolyn found the same feeling of satisfaction senior year while tutoring youngsters as an active member of the tutoring system. Carolyn has a special knack for getting along well with all people. She is a member of the Social Actions Committee, and organized the entire clothing and toy drive. Along with these other contributions, she has a part-time job and even finds time to volunteer in the Emergency Room at Mount Sinai Hospital once a week. Finding a more sincere and caring person would be a dif- ficult task. is
