STUDE T COUNCIL The changing of school years brings the chang- ing of Student Council. This year's Student Body Officers were elected as follows: President - Mark Forester, Vice-President - Eric Tucker, Secretary - james Park, and Treasurer - Annette Duke. Also, the Student Council had a change in advisors. Even though they lost a devoted advisor, Mrs. Beasley, they gained a new and exciting ad- visor, Mrs. VanPelt. Not much change took place in Student Council activities during August. They still sponsored many dances after the football games. These dances were popular and successful because of the tremendous student support. All members de- voted much of their time and effort to the dances trying to help please the participants. Again the Student Council sponsored Miss Northwest. Seven senior girls were nominated by the senior class to run for Miss Northwest. This year's winner was Miss Kathe Watkins who sponsored our school in the Charlotte Carrousel parade, the Concord parade, and the Kannapolis parade. In October, the Student Council gave each member of the cafeteria staff a flower in honor of National Food Service Week. With the help of the cheerleaders, the Student Council sponsored Spirit Week. The days were Monday - Button Day, Tuesday - Hat Day, Wednesday - Sweats Day, Thursday - Overall Spirit Day, and Friday - Northwest T-shirt Day. The week was successful as our football team beat Concord 9-7 in an unforgettable last-second vic- tory. The State Student Council Meeting took place at West Charlotte High School in November. Eric Tucker, jennifer Burr, Mark Forester, and Francisco Ferreira, as a special guest, attended the conven- tion. Many new and exciting ideas were gained so that new and better changes could be made. The Student Council gave a pencil and a pen to each teacher in honor of American Education Week, Also, each member of the Custodial Staff was given a turkey for Thanksgiving. During December the Student Council sponso- red an M 8: M guess to raise money for the Empty Stocking Fund. Also, candy canes were given to each member of the student body. The Student Council collected money from the student body to give a special Christmas bonus to the Custodial Staff in honor of their hard work. During the seasonal celebration, Student Coun- cil provided a jolly Santa Claus and Eight Tiny Reindeer. Francisco Ferreira, our foreign ex- change student from Spain, was presented a Northwest Cabarrus letter jacket as a Christmas present. If anyone believed that beginning statement, then he obviously could not have been part of the Dynamis Staff, for the statement was most def- initely fiction. Yearbook is not all fun and games as many people may believe. The staff sells ads during the summer months and attends a four-day workshop in August. When school starts, the staff is busy making pictures and writing copy for sports, classes, and activities until the final deadline is met in February. At that time, the staff has already started work on the 1989 yearbook. The staff's hard work and dedication result in a year- book that is hopefully pleasing to every- one. 36 X Organizations Doug McDonald, Sports Editor, shows his school spirit on Hat Day. f ll Erin Brown and Michael Iohnson are busy Crt ping Ad Copy.
