1 ISYS iii GIRLS VAR ITX l.ady Trojan Times lt was good, said Coach lvlike Rose with a smile when he was asked how he would sum up his first year of coaching girls basketball at Northwest. I think they finally came together as a team. They have matured as in knowing their roles on the team. There was only one basket- ball out there, not five. The Lady Trojans definitely proved that they could work as a team with a perfect 'I 2-CJ conference record for the season. They showed a massive improvement over the last few years with overall records of E- 'I 8 in '85-E38 and 'I 2-B in '86-87. The girls were also given the chance to get their first basketball tourna- ment title of the BC's, the Catawba College Christmas Tournament. They were victorious over West Rowan in the Championship game by s score of 53-135. Senior Kim Karlon led the team with EC points in that game and was also the Tournament's lvlost Valuable Rlayer. .Junior Roslyn Ford scored 'IC points and junior Angela Foster scored E3 points. This is the first tournament like this these girls have been in, and win- ning it couldn't do anything but help their confidence, commented Coach Rose after the tournament.
