TBDJAN J. The Junior Varsity Football Team ended their season with an overall record of five wins, five losses and a conference record of three wins, three losses. Trojan scoring was led by lVlichael lVloss, wide receiver, who had a re- markable year. Troy Bullock, quarter- back, also was an outstanding player. The defensive unit was led by outside linebacker John Nabors. Dther out- standing players were Glenn Keller, linebackerg Doug Turner, defensive tackleg and Eddie lVlcClure, who was a strong safety. The first few games promised a successful year for Andrew Smith, free safety. Unfortunately, he was lost early in the season due to a knee injury. The season was an exciting one for both the players and for the dedi- cated fans. Northwest held off a late Concord surge over the J.V. Spiders which ended in a 'l 2-S score. Concord made a BD-yard jaunt in the fourth quarter which led the Northwest defense to stiffen and hold down the Concord op- tion game. The J.V. Trojans defeated Sun Val- ley with a score of SD-S. Nluch credit goes to lvlichael lvloss who caught three passes totaling 'ID7 yards which turned into scores. In the game against Forest l-lills, the Trojans lost a South Piedmont de- cision EC1-S. Forest Hills scored 'idl- points in the first ouarter. The Trojans' last game of the sea- son was played against rival Central Cabarrus. The game ended in a 'IS- 'IE score in favor of the Vikings. Northwest had one last shot at win- ning the game in the final seconds, but a ES-yard field goal was blocked and the Vikings came out as victors. Dur strong points consisted of two quarterbacks who could pass the ball well and receivers who had quickness. John Nabors, Doug Turner, and Brooks Preston were very strong on defense. Dn the minus side, the team did not have many physical linemen. Dur players were not as big as some of our opponents. There were numer- ous injuries during the season and several good players were lost. This made us more vulnerable. According to coach Angley, John Nabors and Travis lvlakin made the most improvement during the sea- son. Coach Angley commented, The team had a lot of guys playing football for the first time: they needed the chance to learn how to play football. These players need to continue to lift weights and develop quickness.
