All-Conference IVlen'iL.iers This year was a dominate year for the Trojans and they gained respect from many people and schools. Anthony Carrington and lVlr. Dennis Shinn were named F'Iayer of the year and Coach of the year re- spectively in the South Piedmont Conference track and field. Carrington gained his honors by vvinning the 'lDD- and EDD-meter dashes and he also anchored the vvin- ning 4DC-relay team and SDD-relay team. Also earning All-SFC honors for Northwest oy Winning their events were: David Alexander, discus, IVlarlc Forester, high jump, Eric French, lVlichael Chubirko, and Kevin Gilmore, SDD relay, and Gilmore, Chubirko, and Duane lvliller, 4DD relay. For the girls' team there were two All-Conference performers, lVIichelIe Flhyne in the shotput and Floxanne Davis in the discus. Both of these girls vvon their respective events in the Conference lvleet in which North- west finished fourth. lvlark Forester -I I .- Roxanne Davis is shown here running a relay. but she was All-Conference in the discus. I-le :ored 1 OS points. run. Northwest doubled Sun Valley S4 to 47 in the season's second meet. John West, Anthony Carrington, and Duane IVlilIer won the third and fourth meets as they overwhelmed West Rowan and Central Cabarrus in the lvlontgomery, Randy Rayfield, Bryan Dill, lvlike Saucom, Allen Easley, John West, Srian Pilking- ton, Aaron Jordan, Sryan Kindley. Sophomore Sryan Dill, who advanced to the State Regionals, performed well in both the 1 SCC- and SECC-meter runs. The Conference lvieet was easily won as Northwest outdistanced Sun Valley by 131 points. Individual winners were lviark Forester in the high jump, Alexander in the discus, and fourth meet beating each by over 1CJCJ points. We also won our fifth meet. The sixth meet was incredible as Northwest scored 15S points against runner-up For- est I-lills, who had 4D points: East Rowan had 138 points and Central had 21. Freshman John West won three events, the high jump, 1 1C high hurdles, and BOO inter- mediate hurdles. The first regular season meet was a blowout as Northwest scored 'IOS points, East Rowan scored 4CJ. and Central scored They have pulled together There are a lot of friendships on the team I don t know of anybody who pulls for each other quite as well as not supposed to its like the Fourth of July Coach Shinn they do. If someone scores who is Carrington in the 10C- and EDCI-meters. Also winning were the 40C- meter team of Carring- ton, Gilmore, Nliller, and Chubirko. The winning SDC-meter team consis- ted of Carrington. Chubirko, Gilmore, and Eric French. All of these men were named All- Conference. Everyone made a contribution to the team effort. Alexan- der finished second in the triple. Jordan fin- ished second in the 'I 1C high hurdles, and French second in the 4OCJ-meter. All-Conference in- 1 S. Sryan Dill was a two-event winner in the 1 SOO-meter run and EEOC-meter run. When the Albemarle Invitational rolled around, the Trojans were ready. We were im- pressive but were only able to manage fourth place. Salisbury scored 'IO7 points, Harding scored 1 14, and Sun Valley scored 1C1 as Northwest scored S5 points, just outdistanc- ing Garringer. who had S4 points, Individually, there were several outstanding perfor- mances. Alexander finished second in the dis- cus and West finished second in the high jump, Third place finishers were Alexander in the shotput, Aaron Jackson in the 4CCJ-meter run, Cunningham in the SCO-meter run and finally the 4OC-meter relay team, The County Nleet was a breeze for North- west as they Won by a 24Va margin. Alexander, the IVIVF' of the field, won both the discus and shotput. Todd Beaver, the IVIVF' of distance, won both the 'I SCC-meters and EIECIC-meters. Aaron Jackson won the 40C and Carrington cluded Forester, Carrington, Chubirko. Gilmore, French, lVIiller, and Alexander. A tremendous number of the team made it to the sectionals. The top six people in each event ad- vanced to the regionals. Carrington won the 1OC and Forester won the high jump as the only individual winners. The SCC-meter relay team also won. Ivlany people made it to the regionals. The top four in the regionals went on to the State lvleet at Chapel I-lill. As the day progressed. only Forester, Alexander, French, Jackson. and Carrington were still in competition. On Saturday, lVlay 30, 1 SS7,the State Nleet was held at the University of North Carolina at Chapel I-lill. Cn this day a pair of iuniors emerged as top performers on their team. Carrington finished sixth in the 'ICC-meter dash and Forester finished sixth in the high jump. French finished seventh in the 40C- meter dash. Also Jackson finished eighth in the 4CC-meter dash and Alexander finished eighth in the shotput. Track X 1 413

The re- cord is held by his older brother, Randall Car- rington, and Bruce Jones. Nlichelle Rhyne has done this. What else has she done? She has broken the school record in both the shotput and the discus this year. She also broke the State Sectional record at Statesville in the shotput. Rhyne has not been beaten this year in the shotput. Yes, she will be back next year to break more records and win more titles. Roxanne Davis, a junior, broke the State Sectional record in the discus. Anthony Carrington, a junior, tied the 'ICJCJ meters at 'ICLS seconds. The record was held previously by Randall Carrington and Bruce Jones. Todd Beaver, a senior, broke his own school record. l-lis time in the 13200 meters was 'l O: 'I 13.07. David Alexander, a senior, broke the school record in the shotput with a throw of 52'4 .
