Band Director Mrs, Rebecca Hardin Mrs. Barbara Mullinax - Bi5Ie French 593 FI E ARTS Pattillo works along with students making cards. Mathews directs the Symphonic Band at the Christmas Art is the ability to create things that have beauty using the mind and hands. During the Christmas season, fine arts classes made soft sculpture ornaments and wreaths to decorate their homes. The Art I classes have made lollipops and masks from papier-mache and plan to learn cal- ligraphy. The advanced art classes have made projects based on Greek mythology such as posters and paintings. During the football sea- son, they made an attractive spirit board, which had the mascot of each team we played. The French and Spanish classes competed against each other in an enthusiastic soccer match, where the French were defeated by the Spanish classes. .' is Mr. Robert Angley Algebra!Trig. Mathematics is the study of number, form, arrangement, and asso- ciated relationships us- ing accurately defined literal, numerical and operational symbols. Teachers assist students in developing mathemat- ical skills to the utmost of their capabilities. Math department members attended the state Math Conference in Winston-Salem as well as other workshops and lectures to im- prove their teaching methods and curri- culum development. Competition is a fun way to practice math skills. Selected students participate in math contests at area colleges such as Pfeiffer, UNC-C, and Catawba. At Christmas, classes make geometric solids for the Geome - tree. In the spring, they make booklets and posters of Geometric Constructions. Northwest offers many different voca- tional classes, all of which prepare students for the world of work. Accounting I and II, Data Processing, Of- fice Occupations, Typing I and II, and Busi- ness Math prepare students to work in a business environment. Auto Mechanics, Drafting, Cosmetology, Electronics, and Masonry offer opportunities for students to learn a marketable trade. Dur- ing the school year, one class built flower beds for the school campus, and the Cosme- tology class plans to attend a National Hair Show in New York. Agriculture gives students a chance to care for animals and nature. They sold turkeys and fruit through FFA. The FFA attended a National Convention. Home Economics focuses on household responsibility. This class teaches cooking, sewing, child care, and family living. ICT prepares students for the world of business, and places the students in an ac- tual job. ICT allows students to work during the class period. Students in vocational classes have the op- portunity to join Vocational Industrial Clubs of America. The VICA Club members partici- pate in competition against other students in the Regional and National Finals.
