From Great Expectations to The Canter- bury Tales every student at Northwest travels through his literary heritage. We have learned that the art of English is both an expres- sion and an application of our many personalities. Our descrip- tions of laughter, sadness and love are displayed in poetry, prose, plays and ballads. We found that English is really a study of people. The basic skills of grammar are the keys to communication. They open the doors to speaking, writing, reading, listening, and understanding. Frequent studies of parts of speech, clauses, and clarity of expressions sharpen our understanding and improve our communication with the world around us.
