Brown Wonders defeated the hard fighting Northwest Trojans. lt was the first game for either team to exhibit the fundamentals that they had worked hard to learn during the summer practices. The running attack for the fighting Trojans was sparked by half- backs Bill Henry and Marvin Branch. The scores for Northwest were attributed to Bill Henryls seven yard scramble around the left end of the Little Wonders defense. Sparked by enthusiasm the Trojans kept lighting. In the fourth quarter a forty yard pass from Richard Caldwell to determined tight end Steve Lawing added more points to the Northwest scoreboard. At the sound of horn the Northwest Trojans were defeated 42-12 but still the Trojan spirit lingered on. qjsflfow gacgsfa Avian ljzofarut The Northwest Trojans suffered their second straight defeat against Forest Hills but managed to rack up 6 big points when Bill Henry raced around the end for 11 yards and the score. Northwest was unable to keep up with the Jackets during the first half and the score was 14 to 0 in favor of Forest Hills. The second half was much the same routine and the Jackets came out on top 26-6. Jvozfflwsak bo aflflonzoz The Northwest Trojans were plagued with fumbles and pass interceptions during their 34-18 downfall to the Monroe Rebels. j The Trojan attack was led by quarterbacks Russ Hartsell and Richard Caldwell, with the aid of backs Tim Litaker and Marvin Branch. Litaker, filling in for Bill Henry, who was injured early in the game, scored Northwest's first touchdown of the game from one yard out. Marvin Branch added to the Trojan effort with a 73-yard touchdown run from a pass interception. Branch later ran a 61-yard touchdown for North- west's final score. ljzofani game 969514 On September 19, Northwest won its first victory of the season by defeating the Mount Pleasant Tigers by a score of 12 to 7. ln the third quarter Russ Hartsell grabbed a fumble and raced 55 yards for Northwest's first score. The point after failed and the Tigers held a 7-6 lead. Later in the fourth quarter the final touchdown came when half-back Marvin Branch took a pitchout from Richard Caldwell and hit Charles Correll for 34 yards and the winning score.

Y K dlfozffdwsif wins put cyomacoming Northwest received the opening kickoff and wasted no time chalking up eight points on their side ofthe scoreboard in the Homecoming game against Piedmont. Richard Caldwell passed to end Mike Corriher for four yards and Branch added nine in efforts for a first down. Litaker and Hartsell added the final touches with Litaker scoring. The Trojans scored again late in the second period starting the drive on their own thirty-Hve yard line. The big play came when Richard Caldwell hit Steve Lawing with a twenty-four yard pass and made a first down at the six. Branch rammed the middle of the Panther line for the final yards and the score. On a fourth and three situation Lawing stepped in to intercept the ball at the twenty-five yard line and raced all the way to make the final score 22-6. Uwzofani Bow fo Carzfzaf Northwest extended their scoring streak by racking up six points for their efforts against Central Cabarrus. The Trojans scored against every team they encountered. The Vikings on the other hand, had not been scored against until meeting the Northwest Trojans. Central attacked quickly after receiving the opening kickoff and scored twice before the Trojans could develop a threaten- ing offense. The only score for the Trojans came on a pass from Richard Caldwell to Steve Lawing, during the first quarter. After the Northwest score, the rest of the ball game belonged to Central as the Vikings came out on top, 32-6. cfllfozfffwsif 'Jai Klflfaif Alfanfb The first quarter of the N. W. - West Stanly game was dominated by the Colts scoring 14 points. Led by Litaker and Branch, the fighting Trojans gained 3 first downs which sent N. W. to West Stanly's 8 yard line. Russ Hartsell carried the ball over for the first N. W. touchdown. After halftime full spirited and determined to score, the Trojans came on to the field. Both teams failed to score in the third quarter, but late in the fourth, quarterback Richard Caldwell took to the air completing a 39 yard loft to senior end Steve Lawing. Lawing broke away from his defender on the two point conversion to receive his second straight reception from Caldwell. Northwest held the Colts until the end of the game to capture the 14-14 tie. ljzofani Emp Spartans Northwest romped over the Spartans of Sun Valley by a score of 34-14. Tight end Steve Lawing gave the best perform- ance of the year by scoring on five touchdown passes for a total of 105 yards. Richard Caldwell also gave one of his best performances in the passing attack. Sun Valley never gave up but just could not keep up with the scrappy Trojans of Northwest. The win left the Trojans with a 3-3-1 in conference play.
