This year the staff solved its money problems by requiring each student to pay a newspaper fee at the beginning of the year. This step enabled the staff to concentrate more on the contents of the paper. Each member was assigned material to write for the paper which was issued nine times this past year. The Northwesterly staff also sponsored th'e fourth annual Powder Puff football game in addition to meeting deadlines. The Sounds of Americafi a non-profit group of students from the Charlotte area were also contacted by the newspaper staff. They expressed their love and pride in our country through song to the enjoyment of the general public. A giant step was taken by the Northwesterly staff with the organization of the Quill and Scroll Club. Students maintain- ing an 85 average in all subjects were eligible. The purpose of the Club is to recognize students doing exceptionally good work in journalism. The Northwesterly staff receives our hearty thanks for a job well done. Hee-In Comedy was one of the highlights of the year. Here Dawn Burr, Phil Smith, Jeff McCombs, and Harold Ballard display their talent. I W fox V Fi E A H 1 - --v-f . -Q . f , X I Beginning the years work, the drama classes expressed their originality through the presentation of pantomiines. Various one-act performances helped add a lighter note to many ofthe year's activities. Hard work was required of all actors to perfect their presentations. Special two-act plays were presented to the public to help raise funds. Students desplayed their abilities in the comedy Up the Down Staircase and the drama Flowers for Alger- non . A three-act play was presented as the year came ro a close. This presentation elimaxed endless hours of rehearsing' Induction into the National Thespian Society honored those students who had obtained the required number of Thespian points. ry Parker is tired of going Up The Down Staircase .
