Jazz Ensemble Makes Beautiful Music The 1987 jazz ensemble, composed of student musi- cians from aJi our iiigh school classes, was filled with the talent and diversity of true professionals. Incorporating instruments such as trombones, trumpets, saxophones, drums, guitars, and bass guitars, this weJI-discipJined group played a variety of both jazz and rock composi- tions. Along with regularly scheduled community con- certs in the spring and fall, this year ' s group took part in several competitive performances. Northville scored very well in the regional band festi val in April, once again liv- ing up to their reputation of having the highest musical standards. Jazz ensemble meets every day immediately following school as a seventh hour. Under the direction of Mr. Michael flumbell, these dedicated students sharpen their playing techniques in an informal atmosphere. The talent of senior guitarist David Cocagne and trumpet player Karl Freydl will be greatly missed next year, but with the strong section of junior members there is no doubt the 1988 jazz ensemble will be more than able to carry on the NHS tradition of excellence. Left: Jason Cossin provides the driving beat for the jazz ensemble. Above: Jazz ensemble members Kim Harris, Kelly Calhoun, Mike Brown, Craig Dobie, Matt Ho, Lani Chisnell, Jay Fischer, Karl Freydl, and Brad Guerro harmonize on an upbeat tune. Missing students in- clude Jason Cave, Chris Shaw, Stuart Earl, Scott Mroz, Tim Goode, Steve Janik, and David Cocagne. Right: Karl Freydl blasts out a piercing note. JAZZ ENSEMBLE 77
