The variety 0 equipment has allowed students to better tal e advan- tage of the various hands-on experiences avaiJabJe. The now centrahzed location of the industrial arts department has also con- tributed to the quality of NHS ' s already superior program. The addition of iVfr. Jean Riney and Sue Schweim put the final touches on their sewing projects. Not Just Playing House Homemaking skills, though rarely acknowledged, are essential for survival and welJ-being. Students often neglect the need for learning and fully developing these basic sJcills. Reahzing this, the NHS Home Economics department makes it exceedingly difficult to overlook the wide expanse of general knowledge required for successfully maintain- ing a household. Carlo Tibbie expertly leads classes in paren- ting, living skills and the traditional courses, including clothing and foods. The home economics staff ensures that any student par- ticipating in the program will, upon comple- tion, possess the basic skills that are vital to set- ting up a home. m New Facility In Full Swing Due to the delays in the high school renovation, 1987 was the first year the science department was able to fully en- joy its new facilities. One recently added feature was the centraJJy located office and storage area, opening off the classrooms for convenient access to materials. Science courses offered at NHS range from biology to physics. Earth science, a requirement for incoming resJimen, was added last year to the long list of challenging classes available. The abundant sup-ply of competent teachers and modern laboratory equipment has made it easy for NHS to rise above com- peting school districts and mere than ade- quately prepare students f he future.
