Foreign Language Something t» Tsilk Ah9ut Northville High School offers a unique and exciting foreign language program, consisting of French, German, and Spanish courses. Students enrolled in this program have the opportunity to participate in interesting and educational field trips, such as visiting museums and go- ing to ethnic restaurants. Among the special activities this year were a visit to a Mexican folk dance presentation and lunch at a Mexican restaurant. Christmas time found students sampling the holiday foods of their adopted countries. In addition to learning the mechanics of speech and grammar, NHS ' s Language department includes exten- sive units on culture, novels, and writing techniques in the curriculum. Students may continue their study of foreign language for their entire four year stay at the high school. Added this year to the Foreign Language department staff were Frau Judith iCammeraad and Senora Cheryl Gibbs. Jean Riney and Sue Schweim put the final touches on their sewing projects. Not Just Playing House Homemaking skills, though rarely acknowledged, are essential for survival and welJ-being. Students often neglect the need for learning and fully developing these basic sJcills. Reahzing this, the NHS Home Economics department makes it exceedingly difficult to overlook the wide expanse of general knowledge required for successfully maintain- ing a household. Carlo Tibbie expertly leads classes in paren- ting, living skills and the traditional courses, including clothing and foods. The home economics staff ensures that any student par- ticipating in the program will, upon comple- tion, possess the basic skills that are vital to set- ting up a home. Upper left: Carla Tibbie has a little trouble catching her students ' attention. Lower left: Pam Nichols, Rosemarie Sapla, and Michelle Petro are in stitches over sewing. HOME ECONOMICS 35
