BT Gymnasts Stretch to Meet Success Despite ilJness and injury, the women ' s gymnastics team had a great season. Manager MiJce Valentine returned for a second season and JVficheJJe Charniga completed her third season as head coach, with tumbling coach Cecil Woodrujif assisting her. Seniors Donna Dunnabeck, a fourth- year team member, and Theresa Gatti, a third year member, fronted the team as co-captains. Sophomore Wendy Beach returned for her second season to lead the team in scoring, with freshman Lee LaChance close behind . The team qualified for the regionals and turned out a fine performance. Next year, with a more experienced team and, hopefully, fewer injuries, the NHS gymnastics team will once again prove themselves a formidable squad. Co-captains Jeff Buell and Craig Smith strengthened the team with their leadership and taJent. Assistant coach Darius Mikalonis pushed each swimmer to perform to the absolute best of their ability and significantly imp rove their scores. Tracksters HF Keep Spirit Despite a winJess 1986 season, the spirited Mustangs did have a few bright spots. As coach Mike Webb stated, senior Karen Stinson was like poetry in motion as she kicked her way into sixth place in the 400 meter dash at the league meet, scoring the only points for Northville. With a lack of depth, NorthvilJe suffered the most in field events. Yet, with several versatile runners, the Mustangs covered some of the holes in the long distance events. At the end of the ' 86 season, Karen Stinson and Anne Griffith were named the team ' s most valuable runners, in short and long distance, respective- ly. Newcomer Linda Groves was awarded the team ' s most improved runner award. With a year of ex- perience behind them, Northville ' s young runners will be an asset to the 1987 NHS tracksters. Cathy Page and Kris Marrone loosen up before jumping. Above: The Mustangs keep smihng in the stands, despite their season record.
