With new, specially trained leaders, the '77-'78 Vikettes marched through a year of parades, half- time shows, and award winning competitions. Vikette leaders Carolyn Thomas, Jessica Brooks, Claudia Horsley, and Cindy Hurst attend- ed a special drill team camp in Santa Barbara during the summer of '77, Upon their return, the girls taught the rest of the drill team the new routines they had learned. The girls in the unit designed their own uni- forms this year and they were used exclusively by Northview High School. To raise money, the Vikettes sold pizza, candy, and carnations. At the end of the year, a banquet was held at the Diamond Bar Country Club. Awards were given to girls voted as Outstanding Member, Most Improved, Best in Dancef' and Best in Precision. With Mrs. Sandy Light as instructor, the Vi- kettes performed at all home football games, some basketball games, and competitions at Escondedo, Azusa, West Covina, and Chaffey. The Vikettes also paraded in Hawthorne, Covina, and Glen- dora. The stiff Disneyland competition was con- sidered the most important to the girls because more schools were entered in the contest. The unit spent the weekend within walking distance of the amusement park. They were also given free ticket books. Drill Team 213
