Van free-throw. aps two. 302 s VARSITY NIPPED Varsity Basketball began the season by making a strong showing in the Upland- Montclair Tournament, placing fourth. They also placed fourth in the Valencia Tournament. The team started league ac- tion with a 6-7 pre-league record behind it. They finished up with a disappoint- ing 6-8 record. Norman VanGinkle, team leader, Bob Bishop, Ron Lancaster and Greg Smoyer, led the squad in scoring. Smoyer's sea- son was cut short as a result of an injury. Dave Robinson, also a team leader, was brought up from the j.V. team early in the season. He proved to be quite an asset as he was a great ball handler, and was consistently good on defense. Brian Vinson, the team's 6th man, showed great skill and ability. john Irvin was a hustler and good defensive player. Peter Shpak, the only sophomore on the team, showed promise for next year's Varsity. Bill Warren was a quick defensive player. Bill and Norman also were leading re- bounders. The Varsity squad had close games all year as 13 were decided by 4 points or less. Coached by Ron Rice, the team had an over-all good, although inconsistant season. Scores ,.....,,.,.... . . .,...
