Hmnrknnitvr una N 1 Our Yearbook This year the class of 43 proud to haxe edlted a successful edition of the Plneknotter conslder it the primary proJect of our senior year Through the pre ceding years we had usuallzed and dreamed much of the year book for which we held such hlgh expectations Now we feel that ue haxe realized our goal i Eaily 1n the year we began to raise the funds necessary for the publication We had a fitting bal ance ln our treasury from ourl 1un1or year A large portion of the money was collected ln the form of class dues Probably the largest sum was gathered through the profits of the splendid produc tion of American Passport the senlor class play which was pre sented in February Another ac countable amount was secured by the returns of a prosperous ter m1nat1on of a magazine campaign contest with the Junlors and prox ed ourselves v1ctor1ous Ad results of another successful en terprlse the annual Senlor Dance we had accumulated a remarkable sum of money and found ourselves financially well able to edit ourx Pineknotter still haxlng a com fortable amount rema1n1ng We were proud to dedlcate this yearbook to the boys from our class who have entered the ser xlce of the Unlted States We reallze the great sacrifice these boys are making and feel it only fitt1ng and proper to show our ap preciation and gratitude through the dedlcatlon Work got under way at the be ginnmg of the second semester oft lhlS 42 43 te m Most of the! credit is due the edltor ln chief Jean Reed our modern entrepre N neur and her efficient cooperatlxe staff of assistants The articles! were planned asslgned written returned and typed so that our pubhcatlon went to press April first The business staff lS not to' be forgotten for It was they who PUBLISHED BY IN H S SENIORS 1942 43 Norry Spills S H S Dream Team On a beautiful sunshlny Thanks gn 1ng day the Norry P1neknotters traxeled across the fiowlng Sus quehanna to meet on the Sunbury gridiron a dream team of many high schools in th1s sectlon Pre dictlons by sportminded fans were highly in fax or of the Owls And so they should be for records gave Sunbury a fifty pomt advantage before the game started After losing a maJor1ty of thelr games lowly rated Norry wasnt ex en golng to know where the ball was But didnt they Sunbury fans? Shortly after the kickoff Stevens fumbled from a smashing tackle by the Norry forward wall The ball was recovered by the P1neknotters It kept the Owls busy the Hrst quarter to get pos session of it The surpr1se of the whole game was when the Pine knotters shifted from SIX to a five man l1ne the second quarter by Ballestrinl on two end runs Passes were pract1cally impossible for Sun bury Norry s hard charging l1ne men would smash the passer down before he was able to throw them An enthused crowd watched a close and exc1t1ng second half We did not finish on top but we fought the whole game And let this be not to playing rn er in Northumberland High School would like to pay a small tribute to those first eleven who nobly represented our colors this season First we mention Norman Ren ninger right end A magnificent defense player Norman not only represents Norry High but also the U S Naxy Second Guy Leese right tackle ThlS belng Guys first year h showed plenty of stuff on offen sue as well as defenslve Th1rd Leonard Ruch right a lesson to Sunbury fans be ow er confident when this llttle town across the any sport l l New Teachers When the hours of time rolled around to September the beginning of school we the pleasure of meetlng four had and had new faculty members Walter B Hen nmger pr1nc1pal of Derry Town ship Junior Senior High School at Hershey Nas elected supervising principal of the Northumberland Borough Schools MISS Shlrm serx ed as the new Home Econo mics teacher Mr Charles Cox be came our asslstant coach of foot ball and Miss Sara Alice Keefer R N had the honor of being the first school nurse exer appointed to the faculty of Northumberland H1gh School Mr Henn1nger attended Al bright Preparatory School and Al bright College where he recelved h1S A B degree 1n 1915 followed by extension courses at Muhlen berg College and Bucknell Uni xersity Summer School He also had a full year and summer at Harx ard Unix ersity Graduate thus recelvlng his Degree of Mas ter of Educatlon there 1n 1928 Mr Henn1nger taught 1n Mauch Chunk Township High School at Nesquehonmg and held the prm cipalshlp at Derry Townshlp Jun 1or Senior H1gh School at Hershey before coming here He 1S noted for his continuous guidance and as a source for helpful advice when ever needed Mr Henn1nger IS extremely lnterested in the wel fare of our students and has proved himself more than capable in h1s position Miss Shlrm is a graduate of Pennsylx anla State College Prlor to her present position she taught ln Watsontown for two years l that place she had charge of the cheerleaders the debatlng club and the dancing club Durlng th1s year Miss Shlfln has been qulte actn e in school ac 1lXltlES She is the originator of the Booster Club an adviser of the Kiwanis Lassles Club and is ln charge of the cheerleaders fCont1nued on Page 49 CCont1nued on Page 43 I fCont1nued on Page 43 O .'o.
