16' WNJVJMVG HAND The band this year has a lot of good individual talent and some outstanding players . Mr. Spiers is hoping to capitalize this into a good performing en- semble. Team effort is being stressed into making a good blending group. There will be a lot of good players coming up from the beginning band ranks. Since Mr. Spiers is doing choir this year, band members are learning the art of accompaning sing- ers, which is no easy task, even to the most profes- sional of groups. Balance from both groups is always a problem which the musicians must constantly be aware of and takes a great deal of concentration to maintain. Mr. Spiers considers this to be good early training which will help each player better himself lherselfl as a performer and use these skills in any performing group they would be involved in in later endeavors. Many bands in the Roanoke area frock, country, pop, etc? use singers which adds a great deal to the group's effectiveness. Mr. Spiers feels this will be a valuable experience to our students. The Beginning Band consists of Bridget lordan, Dan Bauer, Beth Slusher, Karen Boyd, loyce johnson, Karen Totten, Misty Earls, David Caldwell, Kenny LaDuct, Tamara Gaultney, Toni Watts, Mike Porter, Connie Barton, Kelly Woolwine, Melissa Hairston, Glen Runions, Rob- bie Wilkerson, jerry Baker, Wayne Hurley, Loren Powers, Eric Groves, David Alls, Chad Wright, Lee Sizemore, Mike Divers, Mark Brown, Marie Cobble, jeff Wimmer, Mack Baker, Andy Harnsberger, David Garraghty.
