Early this year the team picked Captains. They are Billy Catron, Lee Stennett, and David Weddle. Coach Jerry English is pictured with them. Billy Catron guards a William Byrd player as John Fanning and David Weddle stand by ready to make a basket. The team's confidence in themselves led them to an impressive defeat over William Bvrd. The boys on our basketball team had a great season. They were regular season champions and got second place in the tournament. When asked, some of the players said that they really enjoyed being on the team and they have improved a lot since last season. The team had fifteen players. Ten of these were ninth graders and five were eighth graders. They commented that the eighth graders played a lot more and lot better than previous years. Mr. English deserves a lot of credit. He really worked them by making them practice after school, on snow days, during Christmas vacation and on Saturdays. 31
