VIKINGEQREGINIENT NOTES 1987-1988 The 1987-88 school year has been the most successful year ever, for the Northside Viking Regiment. Our goals were set high and sometimes seemed impossible, but we refused to give in. This was going to be a year of firsts for the Regiment, a year of recognition and of dreams becoming reality. This was to be our year! i The work was hardg the sacrifice great and the price high, but eventually those goals were reached! We now look back with pride at a job well done and know that we did it together. lt was a team effort, consisting of everyone pulling their share of the load. We worked together, therefore we succeeded together. We are truly a family! We started our work in the summer at U.S.L. Camps, Where the Color Guard received honors. ' Tara Fontenot- Most improved rifle: Group ll Level I Benita Lavernge Most Outstanding rifle: Level I Group ll Nicole Myers- Most improved ride: All Around Group ll Julie Mouton Most Outstanding rifle: All Around Group ll FALL 1987 ln addition to attending varsity football games and pep rallies, the Regiment competes in Marching Festivals. Our marching field show is judged by professionals in the area, and we are given a rating. The Regiment also received lst Place in Division 1-AAA and Runner-Up to the Grand Champion. The Color Guard also received, winning Runner-up to Most Outstanding Color Guard. laquline Hightower, in her lst year as Drum major received Runner-Up to Most Outstanding Drum Major. ' Selections from the Fall were taken from The Broadway Musical Fiddler on the Roof , This is the first year 'Northside has done a theme marching show. After our great success, hopefully it will not be the last! SPRING 1988 District lll Honor Band participants were, Mike Arceneaux, Robby Boling, Andre Gautreaux, Lynette Connolly, Steve Nelson, Tyra George, Chad Landry and laqueline Hightower. The following people received SUPERIOR ratings at SLBDA District lll Solo and Ensemble Festival: 'Chad Landry, Mike Areeneaux, Gary Lewis, Latrissa Broussard, lenny Meaux, Lynette Connolly, Cayce Clement, Sandra Mixon, Lori Kinney, Kriste Olever, luwanna Winfrey, Michelle 'Mouton, Amy Domec, Shannon Chaisson, Tyra George, Erica Rupple, Robby Boling, and Wendy Lavorghe. Steve Nelson was also a member of ALL-STATE Honor Band, TRI-STATE Honor Band and ALL-SOUTH Honor Band. 73
