Cogers Second in Sectionol Ending the regular season with a record of 5-5, the girls' varsity basketball team, led by Coach San- dra Andreson, didn't stop there. Playing Daleville in the first round sectional game, the Titans showed their strength when all twelve girls played and ended way ahead with the score of 75-18. Going into the semi-final round against Southside, the Titan girls again ended on top, this time with a score of 60-50. After playing Wes-Del during the regular season and being defeated 37-57, the Titans were strong underdogs in the championship game. Despite the snow and the rain that had cancelled many games and practices, the Titans set out to prove that they were stronger than ever and this time closed the gap, still losing, 45-53. The junior varsity team ended its season with a record of 5-4. Brenda Wilson shoots a short jump shot over Wes-Del's Marlene Lancaster, while Kim VanDeusen blocks out Debbie McCIurg. Records where broken by Nancy Darter in the 200 yard freestyle, Tami Ruemler in the 200 yard l.M. and 100 yard backstroke, and Alice Darter in the 100 yard butterfly and the 500 yard freestyle. Winning the state title in the 100 yard butterfly was Alice Darter, who broke the state record during the qualification round with a time of 1:O1.818, and then went on to win the finals with a time of 1:02.047.
