Gridmen Show Progress, 13 to Return it sms. wk Jeff Oziemkowski drags down a Blackford runner South Bend Ftiley's defense found it hard from behind. Jeff Bird 1213 and Jim Buchannan to bring down tailback Tony Griffen 1451 as 4723 zero in to help. Griffen piled up 180 yards on the ground. Jeff Howe helps by throwing a block. Coach Terry Hitchcock will have 13 returning lettermen for next year's gridiron season. Co-captains were selected by team members early in the season. Two seniors, Jeff Bird and Jim Buchannon, received this honor. At the awards banquet junior tailback Tony Griffen received the outstanding offensive back. Senior tightend Todd Jones, who has not played since his freshman days, was awarded outstanding offensive lineman. Outstanding defensive lineman went to senior tackle Jeff Howe, and the outstanding defensive back award went to senior linebacker Tim Green. North's varsitymen showed good progress in a rebuilding year, despite their 4-7 record.
