With the ice, snow, and sub-zero temperature readings, Superinten- dent Donald Slauter was forced to close all Muncie Community Schools January 10, which proved to be only the beginning of the lost school days. Schools were closed until January 24. The fuel shortage also took its effect as Central, Wilson, and Mrs. Wilimienne Hofherr, director of public relations for the Muncie Community Schools, offers refreshments to Mr. Tom Crowe and Mrs. Mary Etta Sutton during the faculty Christmas tea. McKinley were forced to remain closed while the other schools open- ed. A plan was arrived upon for the sharing of school buildings with Northside, Southside and Storer, which meant an odd-even day scheduling for students and teachers of the six schools. On February 7, Northside, Southside, and Storer returned to their usual schedules, as Central, Wilson and McKinley were permitted to return to the school buildings on shortened schedules.
