In a cluster of roses and palm branches is Miss Carey Tank who reigned as the 1977 Junior-Senior Prom Queen. Encourages Amidst the roses and chandeliers, the music and the laughter was A Touch of Class. A night which began for many a month earlier had finally arrived. The dresses were bought and tuxedoes rented. Flowers being kept fresh in refrigerators were awaiting their grand appearance, as nervous parents went searching for film and flashes to capture the moment they thought would never come. Family pictures taken and dinners completed, couples made their way toward The Downtown lnn, with some only to speed back home to retrieve forgotten bids. Entering the main lobby, couples were greeted by a gazebo of palms, mums, and roses as well as sophomores serving as hosts and hostesses. Chatting, nibbling on cakes, dan- cing, and official prom picture taking filled the night, along with the prom queen coronation. Candidates were Carol Faulkner, Charissa Newsom, Kelly Sumwalt, Carey Tank, Mana Thames and Denise White. Parties and get-togethers follow- ed, as couples attempted to keep the weekend going as long as possible, which usually meant very little, if any, sleep. The lobby of The Downtown Inn provides an elegant atmosphere for prom goers as they relax with refreshments. Seniors Betsy Blackmon, Jeff Cheesman, Kathy Hoyt and Keith Peterson find the music of Mandrake to their liking. Elegoince
