Senior class member Bill Petty addresses his classmates on the importance of making their marks, no matter how small, in society. Taking his well deserved proud strides across the stage, Bill Barnhart eagerly goes to his seat to inspect his diploma. New Dimensions While some of the 266 seniors of the 1977 graduating class of NHS were anxiously awaiting the activities following the traditional graduation ceremony, others were concen- trating on keeping two aisles apart and which hand to shake with. Shaking hands proved to be more an ordeal than most thought it would be, as class clown Curt Hunter startled school board secretary Mrs. Joan Murray by extending a fake hand to receive her congratulations. Laughter and tears were shed by the administration, the students, and the audience, following this unexpected, but typical, episode. Although there were light moments, there were also serious ones, as seniors Andy Marsh, Cathie Beck and Bill Petty addressed the class. Each stressed the importance of individualism, hard work, and the significance of each class member. Following the speeches, class president ,leff Bird presented prin- cipal Owen Lemna with two checks, one for the first NHS homecoming, and one for the library fund. Seniors Flon Wilson and Lois Oupanu led the invocation and benediction, as 266 seniors who entered Emens May 24 as students, left as alums of Muncie Northside High School. With a million memories of the past and thoughts of the future, the senior class of 1977 stands tall to receive their long awaited diplomas.
