Challenge for Students Among the over 450 entrants in the annual Special Olympics at Cen- tral High School were five Northside students: Lori Miller, Wayne Sim- mons, Darrell Chambers, Robert Barton, and Randy Anthony. Hosted by Muncie for the eighth year, the opening ceremonies were conducted much like the World Olympics. One athlete from each of the six counties, Blackford, Jay, Ran- dolph, Madison, Grant, and Delaware, helped to carry around a small torch which was used to light the larger torch which then remained lit throughout the activities. Competition in swimming and track and field were divided into age and ability groups, as well as male and female. Events were judged by the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority, while McDonaId's provided food and drinks for the participants. James Powers Freshman Robert Barton takes an early lead as the Special Olympics' 50 yard dash gets under way.
