Junior Jerry Collins varifies his mother's registration while manning the polls at NHS. Campaigning for their Republican candidates, Jack Hammerstein, Lori Gilchrest, and Laurie Hartley give their votes for McDonald's for lunch. to Unite Parties ond Country :enum-.fsymznaQmszsa1s4w.. X, -,-. tsgmw, lf uniting students were as hard as uniting a country at election time, there probably would never be schools, but there are schools and the United States does continue after every election day. From the beginning, the Democratic Party was divided by 12 prospective candidates, but in the end they united overwhelmingly un- der the ex-governor of Georgia from Plains, Jimmy Carter. What looked at the start to be a relatively assured nomination of Gerald Ford for the Republican Par- ty's candidate for president ended as a very thin and emotional margin over ex-governor of California and actor Ronald Reagan. Pitted against each other, the fight to the White House between Carter and Ford resembled that of the Civil War with the North against the South, but evidently that resemblance didn't hold up as Carter received northern states in addition to Southern States and defeated Ford. Our seniors, much as the state of Indiana, voted favorably for Presi- dent Ford in a poll taken by THE NORTHSIDE NEWS. Of the 251 seniors, 203 responded, with 55 per- cent for Ford, 26 percent for Carter, 16 percent undecided, and 3 percent for others.
