Expanding the dimensions in our lives out of school and in athletics meant com- pressing our class and club activities. Some of us started gearing our schedules to certain departments as we set our goals in the fields we felt we would pursue. Gearing schedules and compressing our hours of work didn't seem that bad, but then we were forced to compress, if we hadn't before, and to squeeze more work into less hours as the cold weather and its effects set in. With the severe weather and the oddfeven day switch with Central, faculty members were forced to compress studies so that students could still obtain their normal amount of instructions. Clubs also felt the crunch, as fewer meetings could be arranged during the sub-zero weather, for the possibility of cancellation was high. Proicticoil Experience A change came to the Home-Economics department this year as the traditional Bachelor's class was invaded by females and suddenly became Contemporary Living. The change came as a result of a government ruling against sexual discrimina- tion. Every class offered must now be open to both males and females. The department offered valuable knowledge through classes such as Consumer Ed., Home Arts, Marriage and Family Living, Foods, and Clothing. Tea Room Class members used profits made on cookie orders to reward themselves with a luncheon at the Cork and Cleaver. HERO students were provided with practical job experience through employment in various Muncie restaurants. New to the department this year were Miss Lydia Stilwell and Mrs. Marla Perdue, who became the first Northside graduate to return as a teacher. 1 .' wr J W w 'I Q r 'o 4 4' if Mrs. Patricia Barnes Mrs. Marilyn Berry Mrs. Nancy Callahan Mrs. Rebecca Holderman Mrs. Marla Perdue Miss Lydia Stilwell Contemporary Living class provides Phil lsen- barger with the chance to try out his cookie- cutting skills.
