. ff ls Fred Spears presented a ball that each member ofthe team had autographed to Coach Barborak at the beginning ofthe last game of the season. The presentation was honoring Coach 'slast year as baseball coach and was also thanking him for his leadership and devotion to the Rams for the last years when they captured the Regional and Bi- district titles. I A Ernest Valdez played second base this year for the if U' ' Rams' team. Ernie showed that he was quite worthy ' of being on the team by his speed and ability to reach A yt 3 home plate from second base. Ernie will possibly 'sf change to the position of shortstop next year to fill a A 5' 2 f vacancy caused by a graduation. He had the third -fy Qqh f75,,Q highest batting average this year. - 9 I , iii' Wayne Benke played left field first base and in a few cases he was called upon to pitch This was his Junior year it was his best year for th Rams team and naturally bil' thinvs are expected of him next year His experience should pay off Wayne had the ambition and love for abaseballgame that it took to make a good ball player He had speed as well as -o ability this combination made hima Good all round player W yne playedthe gameshard he put his team first in mind and made personal sacrifices for the benefit of the team M hord season James Dressen became one ofthe brightest hopes tor 's1or'hs1des future baseballteams This was Chuck s second year on the team he has two remaining years Chuck s quick thinkinv helped the Rams team out of sex eral tight spots Not only did his catching excel but My also his hitting Chuck is probably the finest catcher ie- that Nlorthside has ever produced Many of the coache ot :M omosinv teams quickly learned of Chuck s eaoabilities ' they think hi rhly of him and his excellent work do the students of Nlorthside fr! 'I 1 wa. fe? F Clifford Thompson, the Rams' ace pitcher this year, was doing great work, but unfortunately he hurt his back in the second district game against East Central. The loss of his pitching arm was greatly missed in the remaining games of the season. Naturally, hopes for the District Championship were lower after Cliff's injury. His greatest performance was at the Corpus Christi Tournament, where he pitched in four games and won three of them to help capture the Tournament Championship. Pat Olfers was a great shortstop for three yearsg he had his best year for the Rams this year in hitting and fielding. Patty Babe will always be remembered as one of the V heroes to have brought the Regional Cham pionship to Northside in his sophomore year and also in the winning ofthe Corpus Christi Tournament in hisjunior year He hit s1x for eleven in those four games Pat was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame during the past two years ,ff if The game certainlymust not be all work Craig Mason Wayne Benke Bobby Pittman r and Billy Draker stop all activitymomentarily to wet their whistles before the game gets under way This picture could quite easily be named The Pause That Refreshes These players do not seem to be worried about the upcoming game anyway 1 ,QM -111 we T: M '42 Billy Draker was only a sophomore this year but he proved that he would be a very capable starting pitcher next season He showed good form in his pitching although his action was limited this year Billy had spirit and very high hopes for the well being of his fine team He will certainly be a great asset to the Rams team in the last two years of his high school career Billy has had baseball experience in the past years but this was the first year that he was on Northside s Varsity team Previously hehad played in the Little League the Pony League the Babe Ruth League and the Northside B team 'il- 'Vw Sw lg, 9' fien- 'F glrsswfwl -f K ,....,...- 'Warns 4-04' Lua 83 .Q - , W Hlvgy . . . . . dbh V ,, . . . ,Q .
