Curtis Krueger - Curtis, a freshman, showed that he had great potentiality for the years to come. He gained valuable experience this year, and he should be one of the top players on the future Northside basketball teams. Curtis was tall, and this was a great help to him. He handles the ball easily: the game seems to come more easily for Curtis than it does for other players. He showed a great improvement this year by improving more than any other player throughout the season. fl bl district championship, regional title try of Pat Olfers' jump shots, but Craig Mason thinks and acts quickly enough to get set to grab the ball and convert it into two points. A Floresville player partially blocks one 6 ' l Craig Mason shoots his fade away jump shot over a Floresville player for two points. Hank Cox and Wayne Benke get good positions for a rebound. Craig was very effective on this shot from the corner of the court. A player must have skill enough to hit the basket from al- most any point onthe court. The easier that you can fake your opponent, the better it will be for your team. An athletic banquet was held in the schoolcafetorium at the end of the year to honor all of the athletes and their fathers. The F. H. A. served a very luscious dinner to the hungry men, and then the boys entertained themselves with the toys that had been placed on the tables. Henry Howell, school board member and lover of athletics, was the Master of Ceremonies. Superintendent Murray Boone and Principal Homer Smith spoke briefly about the athletic program at Northside, and then Randy Clay of WOAI radio and television spoke on sports. The evening ended with the showing of acolor movie, HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 1958 SOUTHWEST CONFERENCE FOOTBALL SEASON.

Here is another example of the great rebounding strength of the Rams as Benke and Cox go up and Craig Mason gets set to help if necessary. In basketballreboundingis just as impor- tant as point making, because one cannot score if he cannot get the ball. Coach Barborak stressed this with his teamg they soon grew to realize the importance of each and every rebound. Getting a rebound calls for fast reflexesg naturally speed isn't everything. The jumper must avoid hitting his opponent too. Roms beat Lockhart for lose to Clear Creek in As can be seen in this picture the Rams usually had a good turnout of sports lovers at their basketball games Everyone who came to watch Northside realized the progress that the team was making The Northside Rams did a wonderful Job of representmg their school this year Their progress is certainly not at an end they must and they wrllstrrve to be a better teamf Hank Cox pulls a sneak play as he shoots a Jump shot while the opponents have the1r backs turned fActually the referee had blown his whistle and every one was returning to mid court But not Hank he just wanted to take a practice shot It did not count anywaylj Pat Olfers shows the bit boys that he can get a rebound too Speed and Jumping ability are no the only attributes that a basketball player must possess ne must also have sense enough to be at the right place at Floresxilre it as anothe step in the long climb t the district cham Dionship fEdito s note xx e wonder what lx axne Benke is doing behind Pat Olfers It looks a thouvhhemightb t ting to slap the bal out of Pat s hands 'J 76 : ' ' - 4 .
