Northside beofs Floresville Craig Mason shows good form as he takes a jump shot in the last district game of the season against East Central. Wayne Benke gets in position to take the rebound if the need arises. At the same time he seems to be trying to get in front of one of East Central's players to avoid competition with him for that precious ball. -- Watch that el- bow, Benke! Hank Cox reaches for the ball against Floresvllle s Caro number twenty three Wayne Benke stands below ready to spring to the aid of his team mate if the play demands it Thrs picture 1S a good example ofthe way that these two North side players worked together throughout the year There was a great deal of competition on the rebounds in the district games thisyear the Cox Benke combination tookmany of these balls from their competing teams Pete Inselman Although Pete did not see much action during the year he helped keep the fight and spirit of h1s team high This was Pete s f1.rst year with the team he was ambitious and was always ready to come to the aid of his teammates Pete s friendly nature and encouragement gave the players new These are the averages in points per game for the six top scorers on the Ram s team for the season and district play The fact that only two points separate the top three scorers shows the great teamwork d1s played by the team this year Season District Season District Wayne Benke 13 9 19 3 Don Steubing Craig Mason 12 2 ll O Hank Cox Pat Olfers 11 7 11 1 Wayne Bacon i 5 E . Here is another example of the great rebounding strength of the Rams as Benke and Cox go up and Craig Mason gets set to help if necessary. In basketballreboundingis just as impor- tant as point making, because one cannot score if he cannot get the ball. Coach Barborak stressed this with his teamg they soon grew to realize the importance of each and every rebound. Getting a rebound calls for fast reflexesg naturally speed isn't everything. The jumper must avoid hitting his opponent too. Roms beat Lockhart for lose to Clear Creek in As can be seen in this picture the Rams usually had a good turnout of sports lovers at their basketball games Everyone who came to watch Northside realized the progress that the team was making The Northside Rams did a wonderful Job of representmg their school this year Their progress is certainly not at an end they must and they wrllstrrve to be a better teamf Hank Cox pulls a sneak play as he shoots a Jump shot while the opponents have the1r backs turned fActually the referee had blown his whistle and every one was returning to mid court But not Hank he just wanted to take a practice shot It did not count anywaylj Pat Olfers shows the bit boys that he can get a rebound too Speed and Jumping ability are no the only attributes that a basketball player must possess ne must also have sense enough to be at the right place at Floresxilre it as anothe step in the long climb t the district cham Dionship fEdito s note xx e wonder what lx axne Benke is doing behind Pat Olfers It looks a thouvhhemightb t ting to slap the bal out of Pat s hands 'J 76 : ' ' - 4 .
