Senior recognition day Jennifer Johnson receives the best girl award for outstanding citizenship. Debbie Tilbury. Al Martindale, and Jeff Halter wait patiently for the opening announcements at recogni- tion ceremony. On the 31st of May at 7:30 p.m. the seniors were invited to recognition night at Northrop. The ceremony was held in the gymnasium. Many awards were given out in cups, metals, and trophies. The SpuUer Valedictorian cup this year went to Jeff Halter. He also was awarded the science cup. Maria Shock was the Salutorian in which she was given the Tricolas Salutorian Cup. She also was given the 4th year Latin award. The different departments gave their awards away. The academic award was given to Ed Zbacnik in Mathematics. Jon Warkentin was given the Pressler-Physic Cup. The Social Studies Achievement went to Ruth Ann Lachot. Business Depart- ment Key was awarded to Vicki Boley. Rick Magley went from the recognition with most of the awards from track. They were the Most Valuable Track, Most Valuable Cross Country. Mrs. Janet Weber presents the modern foreign language award to Beth Sams.

Seniors receive the long awaited Mr. Tom presents the girls physical education award to Vicki Stuckey. Mr. James Sweeney presents the What ' s Bruin award to seniors Frank Balogh, Ester Lacy, and Debbie Mann. The seniors wait until all have taken their places before the recognition ceremony begins. Northrop ' s first Gymnefest provided an exciting evening for both the audience and participants. Selected students from gym classes displayed their agility by dangling from the uneven parallel bars and flip- ping across the floor in a series of tumbling routines. Physical Education is an impor- tant area at Northrop and follows the Greek axiom of a sound mind should exist in a sound body. Physical con- ditioning is important in Northrop PE but there is another aspect and that is personal recreation that can continue through the rest of the individual ' s life. Coordination and balance are needed to build human sculpture like this. He flies through the air with the greatest of ease, but those people underneath show some concern as to exactly where superman
