During the Sadie Hawkins Dance, Minister Levy married Patty Mertz to Bob Pea. On April 13, Northrop students dressed up in country clothes for the Sadie Hawkins dance. There was ap- proximately 75 people who were doing a little foot-stomping, knee-slapping, and hand-clapping to the tune of country rock. The band played on while others snuck away to be married by Marryin ' Sam , alias Mr. Richard Levy. Mr. Paul Spuller committed bigamy ... he married three women. This was heard from an on-the-spot eye witness. There was no fee to be married. Maybe that was why Mr. Spuller took advantage of this service. For the ones who were eager to be married, but later regretted the outcome, divorces were available on the following Monday in school for only $10.00! No divorces were ever granted . . . doesn ' t that show the true, everlasting love of Northrop High School?! You could tell by the atmosphere that everyone was having a whoppin ' good time . . . Girls ask fellas to Sadie Hawkins Strangely dressed back-country folk fill the Northrop gym for a real hoe-down with their jugs filled with who knows what.

They held a black history program one week, with Laurietta Jordan and Jeff Straton as commentators. After that came the an- nual Extravaganza which netted a reasonable profit according to Mrs. Ir- by, the head of the group. For the first time ever, the club decided to hold a Miss Afro contest. The title was claimed by La Vonda Moore and Fran- cine Harris and Brenda Moore were the runner ups. Also, during Christmas, they sponsored the canned foods drive for the Allen County Children ' s Home. The club itself contributed one hun- dred goods to neighborhood Services Association. Their last project was a trip to King ' s Island. An academic award was awarded to Laurietta Jor- dan for having the highest average among the seniors in the club.
