Today's young people are not facing unique problems. They, through the mass communications of today, are aware of many more problems than any youth in history. It is good that they have ideas and commitments to better mankind, but they must use their inherited intelligence and their educational experiences to build on our present society. They must not feel re- morse about the situation in which they find themselves, but accept it not only as a challenge, but as а responsi- bility that each generation has had and each succeeding generation will have. Young people: You do not find your- selves in a unique situation. Can you accept the challenge and responsibili- ties? Time will tell. Robert Meyers Principal of N.H.S. We must adjust our learning, we must adapt our institutions and alter our egos to be more sensitive to the needs of others. And all this change must be accomplished amid order. It can all come about within the social, religious, educational, economic and governmental structures we now know. These changes, these improvements, will come about when this generation offers not blind criticism of present situations, but constructive, well-thought out plans for orderly change. Thomas Kattau, President of M.C.C.T.A. Our parents and educators say: What is the Youth doing to America? The Youth reply: What have you done to America? Why don't we all ask: What can WE do for America? Create a stir, be a participant. The silent majority stinks simply because it is silent. Let no man be condemned for his words but instead let those be damned that have not spoken at all. The problems of the world today are ignorance, greed, and just too little faith. Let these three things be eliminated and the downfall of prejudice, war, pov- erty, corruption, and pollution will be at hand. For education is the key to success, compassion and selflessness the keys to the human heart, and faith the key to Ше gates of heaven! Milt Pressler, Medical Student, N.U. In any age from that of Adam and Eve ofthe Old Testament to that of Adam Clayton Powell and Eve Curie of our own time, polarizations between good and bad can readily be identified. But for any one person our age is very much what we, ourselves, can make it. This is the challenge to the class of 1971 at Northridge High. Carl Kreider, Acting President of Goshen College All generations have had to face problems. The problems of today are different from the problems of the past. The methods of facing these challenges have changed very little. 1. Choose the goals you wish to attain. 2. Educate yourself to attain these goals. 3. Build a strong moral character and maintain this throughout your life. Irvin Pratt, Athletic Coordinator 71 faced differences. Students: Remember that the administration is more experienced. Teachers: Let me quote Emerson, “The secret of education lies in the respect of the pupil. Jerry Troyer, Senior Class President To learn is to live school experiences which form habits, values, and atti- tudes. The faces in this book will use what they have learned to remake our society, step by step and piece by piece, but not by one bold stroke of revolution. These faces are the hope of the years to come. Roland Е. Young Superintendent of Schools
