UNITED WE STAND School Spirit is developing one per- son’s pride into the school's. If we could take every single person’s pride, and join that altogether, we would have a large quantity of school spirit. It would be wonderful if everyone — including teachers — could join together and all be in favor of the same thing: The school spirit of Northridge High School. — Shelly VanFossen Freshman Cheerleader I think School Spirit is a feeling a person gets when he knows he has helped a team to victory. It is having pride in your school and being able to pick the team up when they are behind. You do not have to be a cheerleader to have school spirit. You just have to let the team know that you are behind them all the way. Whether it be with cheers, claps, or just being there, the team always appreciates it. — Diane Williams Sophomore Cheerleader Spirit Is . . . more than cheering and yelling for your team. It is supporting your classmates when they are losing as well as winning. School spirit is a feeling that your school is one of the best. It is defending your school when someone puts it down. DIVIDED WE FALL Spirit Is ... a feeling that binds together groups, encourages pride and earns a school its reputation. Spirit is when you walk down the hall on a Friday afternoon and can see everyone from cheerleaders to teachers decked out in the props of spirit day and in green-and-white. Spirit is when the electricity you feel building in the halls on a game day lingers on through a pep rally and into the game. Spirit is when a stranger walks into a gym on the evening of a basketball game to hear an ecstatic crowd cheering for a team that is behind by twenty points. Spirit is when there is as much support and interest in a musical function, girls basketball or volleyball game or a junior varsity football game as there is at a varsity football game. Spirit is when your cheerleaders have enough enthusiasm to lift up the crowd; and the crowd has enough respect to appreciate their efforts. Spirit is when, at age 15, I can attend a homecoming game and feel proud to stand up an sing the NHS Alma Mater. 3 — Kim Postle, Junior Cheerleader
