REFLECTIONS Our lives are albums written through With good or ill, with false or true; And as the blessed angels turn The pages of our years, God grant they read the good with smiles, And blot the ill with tears! — John Greenleaf Whittier Reflections do make a yearbook a remembrance of those happy times spent with special friends. Time is precious, yet not as precious as the time we spent on this annual. There is no doubt that it does take many hours of hard work and dedication to create an annual. It is not just the photographs which make a yearbook special: It is the people who give of themselves that makes it special. I would like to express my thankfulness for their help. First, I wish to thank our advisor, Mrs. Poe, for her guidance and many hours of diligence in this endeavor. To you the students and faculty, I wish to express my gratitude for putting up with those chaotic picture days. Without you, it would be totally impossible to create a book which captures the memories of this past school year. As in every club, there are many people willing to be members at the start, but obligations arise and some things must be forgotten such as the yearbook. However, a few and fearless students stuck it out and created an annual of which we can all be proud. To that small, but sturdy staff, I offer my sincere thanks and gratitude. THANK YOU! Sincerely, Kelly Lowry, Editor 3 Ask the faculty members about her and they'll tell you she’s mischief with an Oklahoma accent — always ready with a smile, a joke or a wise crack. But ask the students and she's all business, for business is what it’s all about for Mrs. Prior. Although the students may struggle to get through typing, general business, and bookkeeping, they will thank Mrs. Prior years later when they are able to balance their checkbooks, keep their own financial records, make purchases wisely, or type their own letters and reports. Mrs. Prior has been teaching at Northridge for over 15 years. She received her BS in business education from Phillips University in Enid, Olda. and her masters in business education from Ohio State. Mrs. Prior is known to spend many hours going over student papers to catch the errors missed by careless typists so that they can improve their accuracy. She also works on the musical each year making seating charts and selling tickets, and she is in charge of the faculty’s personal interest fund. For her many years of service in helping students to develop skills they will use the rest of their lives, we dedicate this 1980 Norhian to Mrs. Marthenia (Tina) Prior. 4 Administration Office To the Class of 1980, my wish is for productive fulfillment. As you look back from time to time on these pages. in addition to the pleasant memories they will recall. I hope they will create in you a growing awareness of the value of the place of the public school in our society. The system, without doubt, has its faults. Yet these faults are only exposed in a free society such as ours, and they are few indeed when compared to overall accomplish- ments. You. as a graduate of Northridge High School, can assist in resolving the deficiencies of your school; for the needed improvements will come primarily as you participate in the effort to improve the system. Rich Unger, Local Superintendent BOARD OF EDUCATION: Seated — Imogene Hickman, Vice President and Janet Everett Standing — Harry Gaines, John Warner and Dick Rogge, President CHARLOTTE PORTER, Treasurer BETTY HATFIELD, Secretary JOAN GILMORE, Asst. Treasurer 6 BARB McDAVID, School Clerk PATTY OYLER, School Secretary HIGH SCHOOL OFFICE Mr. Hollingsworth Mr. Shelly Dr. Froning As the graduates of the Class of 1980 leave the halls of Northridge High School as students for the last time, it is my fervent hope that they will be a force for good in their selected committees, as well as their country. It is hoped that they go forth with full recognition of their responsibilities as citizens of this great country. It is hoped that they have developed pride in themselves, their community, and country. On behalf of the Northridge High School faculty and staff, our congratulations and best wishes for good health and happiness in the future to the Class of 1980. For gold is cold and lifeless, it can neither see nor hear, and in the time of trouble or need it is powerless to cheer. It has no ears to listen no heart to understand It cannot bring you comfort or reach out a helping hand So when you ask God for a Gift, be thankful if he sends not diamonds, pearls, or riches, but the love of true friends. In the great game of football, to beat the game we have to believe and understand it. We must have respect for it but not be afraid of it. Once we understand the game, the variables become the people. We want our players to believe that they are playing the game of football. Our opponent is ourselves — our potential. We don't coach against Utica or Johnstown. We coach against the game. It is the game that beats us. If you fool with it, it'll kill you. The most important commodity we have is time. If we're not intelligent, time escapes us. Time has to be understood just like the game or else it will beat us. When our players, at the age of 45 or so are asked, What thing singularly influenced you in your life? If they respond, Playing and learning about life while at Northridge. Then, we've been successful.
