From among these seventy faces we recognize many as special friends of our class. They are our own teachers, our seminar and activity advisors and our coaches. To these generous adults we extend a special thank you for their time, their guidance, and their faith. It is the profound wish of the Class of '59 that it will someday be worthy of their selfless devotion. And in this comer we have peanut butter and jelly, tuna fish, or bologna. Campus Candids Personal Typing class - a popular course for the college-bound senior. ly? ' u- The College-Preparatory Math class is a new course for the ambitious senior. Yiee President, Class History As eager. young Freshmen. our Class of approximately 200 entered the newly huilt Campus-type high school Q thc first of its kind on the Island. Many things have hap- pened to this Class sinee that September of l955. ln Oe- toher of that hrst year. we entered our Hallowt-'en float. -loan of Areu and won an Honorable lklention. Although the elass did not eleet officers during its Freshman year. it organifed and exeeuted a talent show to start huilding a treasury. Our Sophomore year' started off with plans for a stupen- dotrs Halloween float: a wild west show. hut rain Can- eelled the town parade at the last nronrent. In .lanuary of our seeond year the Class sponsored the Snowhall liounee which huilt up our treasury to nearly 7lS20fl. Cnr first elass oflieers organized several hake sales. also. in yiew of the need to earn as much money as possihle so that we could then Concentrate on putting out an expensive yearhook. lt was with unbounded enthusiasm that our expanding fnow 205i Class entered its .lunior year. lYith an eye for the future. our advisors and new offieers planned rnany events. Class dues were eolleeted. and we sold suhserip- tions to the Herald Trrbrurrz' rrrany devoted juniors spent eyery morning delivering these papers to the suhserihers. 'I'he Spaghetti llinner was our higgest money-making eyent: it was a huge sueeess and proyed what good or- ganiyation Could do, Several -lunior dances were held in the Cafeteria. helping still more to hring in money. Of Course the most exeiting aetiyity of the class was its .ioh of planning the Senior Prom. This took over a month. and as a result. was excellently decorated and very well attended. ln May of that year the .luniors were issued their elass rings. Now we were really irrrportarrt. Seniorhood was right around the eorner. The year W58-59 was a husy one for all of us. lleginning with our float for llalloween, we took first prive for our rendition of tlre Roaring 'l'wenties inrluding male Cfharleston-ers. Each year the New York State School Music Associa- tion sponsors a concert which boasts the best musicians in Suffolk County. They are in either the band. or- chestra, or chorus, according to their talent. and must audition late in September. From the auditions. careful selection is made. and music is distributed to the se- lected musicians. Then in November these chosen ones spend two days rehearsing. to turn out a tremendous concert for the public. This year the concert was held at Port Jefferson. Northport was fortunate to have sex'- eral participants in the band and chorus. ALI.-STATE CHORUS It! ROIV: Helen Citsas, Shirley Newton. Special photography was by Bernal Studios. We sincerely thank Mark Fontaine for his generous work and aid in developing photos. Sir. Eugene Barnard ofthe American Yearbook Company spent many hours with the staff. and his time and advice is very much appreciated. We would like also to thank our faculty advisors, Nlrs. Catherine Hawley. Nlr. Irwin Blumenthal. and Mr. Raymond Carden, for their leadership. and for their understahdingg without them we would not have a yearbook. A special thank you goes to the entire ad- ministration at Northport High for their cooperation and encouragement. Nlany memories are held by this book. Wie who have graduated will look back on our senior year at Northport High as the beginning of a new road, a harder road, perhaps, but one for which we have strived. The success we find will be our own. and will come only as the result of still more work. In this book is reflected all of which we are proud, and we will return to its pages often to find the encourage- ment which it holds for us. This is our book. and we take pride in its honesty and forward look. THE 1959 TIGER TALES STAFF NORTHPORT HIGH SCHOOL NORTHPORT. NEW YORK P' a I , A-M'- ' w,..-.W -1' ff Xngvf F- .- R, nn E 'Q P.
