Among 4 . ,Iss these were Jane Anderson, Martha Clark, Jean Bell, Joe Morello, .I 4. Polly Hotchie, Joann Pennington, Dolores Perez, Jack Herndon, Billy Cox, and Mary 'Pigtails' Fagio Jean Bell disliked her company at Q--L ' NIHS so she left in the middle of the year for Rolfe While these 11.11, youngsters were looking over Ilorthfork School, others were having 53090 similar experiences at Crumpler, Ashland, McDowell, Rolfe, Algoma, and Keystone In the second grade Billy Cox and Martha Clark, not being able to stand the entrance of Shirley Henderson, Helen Spoloric, Sue Reed, and Sammy Skeen, Fled to Keystone and Coalwood Respectively In the third grade Polly Notchie was drawn to New York by the thought of the gay life it offered and our Jean Bell decided that she liked us after all and returned Sue Reed, who d1dn't think our school was good enough for her, left us at the end of the school year Two long years rolled by with nothing much happening except broken paddles and lots of lessons Then in the fifth grade our wandering Polly, tired of big city life, retarned and Jean Bell changed her mind again and went to Arizona In the sixth grade Julia Flippen, who could not stand Billy Cox at Keystone, came to us for protection In the seventh grade everything was different de were high school Our day, instead of being divided by recesses, broken up into six p riods On the second day everybody got there were so many classrooms Also in the seventh grade we invaded by the gang from up the holler June Bailey, Minnie Bullls, Randolph Burgess, Dolly Cannady, Ronnie Cook, Nancy Lewey, Shirley Lewey, William Cowan, Eugene Furches, Barbara Holloway, Betty Lewellyn, Virginia Mitcham, Helen Monarky Doris Nichols, Katherine Osborne, Roland Roberts, Bobby Seren, Betty Sexton, Melba Snyder, and Verna Stevens Our long lost pals Sue Reed, Jean Bell, and Martha Clark pleaded to be admitted once more into our wonderful institution In the eighth grade it was like an atom bomb exploding when the Crumpler Junior High invaded us Among these were Frankie Boales, Margaret Cochran, Fern Bornett, Betty Craft, Jack East, Dorothy Jones, Junior Jones, Maxine Lambert, Richard Orander, Mary Jane Otey, Dona Sexton, Mack dhitt, and Sue Workman But wait that 1sn't all here comes shy little Bessie Lawless straggling in late a habit she has never broken In the ninth grade we were joined by Jean walker, who thought Nortnfork was better than 4cComss, and Jimmy Hyder, who was so lazy that he was kicked oat of Kimball In the tenth grade it seemed as though we would never recover from the shock of those Keystone kids They were Rochelle Black in junior was lost were Dillon, Margie Flippen, Vester Gravely, Ola Jean Hairfield, Glenn Jones, Carol Will , Carole Mullins, Waudie McPeak, Lebata williams, Shirley Parks, Tom y Rakes, Anita Tapia, Billy Vannoy, Vildred Halghn, Bonnie Harden, Virgie Whaling, and Lardon dilliams Billy Cox decided that re would forgive and forget and came up with the kids t was also in the tenth grade that Jean dalker and June Ballev left for McComas In the eleventh grade everything was about to settle down when Icle Donathan and hannie Linkous, Elkhorn Indians, joined us You can imagine the uproar then! Also Jean Walker after a lot of school changing decided that NHS was best after all and came back to join us Finally the year of all years rolled around and everybody oegan to get impatient and to worry a little bit about their grades we were now those wonderful, dignified Seniors We were joined June Bailey, who wanted to graduate udth her friends, and Tommy Henegar from Whitewood, Virginia with our goal almost completed, we are now twiddling our thumbs impatiently waiting to get that treasured diploma for w ich we have worked so hard for so long Wonder what we'll be twenty years fr m now' L Qlb C L . s 5 I 6 t . Polly Notchie Bessie Lawless Glen Jones Mack Whitt Eugene Furches ' 0 U - I Vi f A , ,Q k , l 3 'thi y wx 'V ' 5,25 to Y I ' i if' 'Q CLASS PROPHLCY As I sat in front of the open fire place gazing at the flames, I seemed to see a vision formed by smoke from a brightly flickering white flame As the smoke rose a little, I suddenly found myself in the city of Sacramento, California, and to my amazement I saw Nancy Lewey, a famous interior decorator, designing the rooms of the governor's mansion As I left the building I caught a glimpse of the governor, Junior Jones, ard his wife, Jane Anderson, who is now a prominent executive at the Large Orange Bank whose owner is the great William Cowan. On the next block of the city stands the Jack Herndon Hospital which has made the greatest discovery of all ages, a serum for making men more handsome, which was discovered in 1961 by the famous scien tist, Tommy Rakes, and his assistant, Eugene Furches In the surgery rcoa, I find Carol Mills, who has recently become Supervisor of all Nurses in California The brain specialist in this locality is the I SJ one and only Doctor Landon Milliams QED F9 Leaving the nospital and going toward Twenty first Street, I notice a top feature singer, Anita Tapia, who started her career in school on an assemoly program and then decided to follow up her career of becoming the star of the 'California Opera House At the , ,, bottom of this special attraction I notice the Director of Art for this company is Maudie 1cPeak, whose business partner is Shirley Nogxf W02RY Lewey Passing the Art Galleries, I wound my way into a studio where a television program was just beginning I found a seat in the balcony where the view to the stage was excellent As the curtain went u to my astonishment, I saw that tne models for the 'Fade and Fasaions program were som of my school pals Jean Bell, Sue Reed, Betty Sexton, Kay Osborne, Rochelle Blackburn, Melba Snyder, and Joann Pennington Some of the famous guests were Betty Craft, Dorothy Jones, Mary Fagio, and Icie Donathan, all of whom rose to fame in such careers as movie stars and script writers One of the movie producers, Vester Gravely, featured the top event of the evening with the lovely ballet dancer, Carole Mullins After the show I met the sponsor, Bobby Seren, from whom I learned that Betty Sue Lewellyn had become a missionary to Africa while 'vlary Jane Otey was teaching in the State University of Colorado ,W the driver we talked about our school days and all the good times ia everyone had when we were in Northfork High SQ j All too soon, the time came for me to board the plane to the next stop, which would be the 'Laughing M Ranchn On the plane I met --., the pilot, Sammy Skeen, and his co pilot, Tommy Henegar Since I was hlngry, I pressed a button and the stewardess, Shirley Campbell, came with a delicious lunch prepared by tae Chef, Frank Bowles, with the help of his dietician, Dolly Cannady I decided to go to the lounge section of the plane and there I met Maxine Cyphers, Lebata williams, and Ola Jean Hairfield with their lovely families on their way to 'iami Beach for a few weeks vacation Just then Shirley Parks and Viraie dhaling came in I soon learned that they were seeking their fortune on experimentation with the heat plant As the plane landed in Nevada, Mary Custis Bower, owner of the Yellow Cat Ranch, met me at the station She showed me around her large ranch we visited tne big corral where a few stray cows were mingling with her nerd So she sprang on her horse and called Richard Orander, Billy Cox, and Randolph Burgess, who were helpers on the ranch Half an hour later I was relaxing in my seat on the plane enroute to the capitol, Washington, D C , to visit and get a report on the advancement of our government First I went to a joint session of Congress and talked to the Speaker of tne House, Joe Morello, who took me to the as embly, where the cabinet members were meeting to discuss the new budget Here I learned that Glenn Jones was the Secretary of Inventions Next we visited the dhite House and had luncheon with President Deward Dillon and his wife Martha Clark 57 S After luncheon we went to a meeting of the United Nations Here I discussed the Foreign Policy and learned that Dolores Perez and Margie Flippen are now teaching in foreign schools on the International , sxchange Program of teachers, SQ Qilas . .zifv W - 1, 1 , 'f . - Jag r . W . i -Q 1? 0 ': -' : 'O - 3 J By this time I was ready for a little relaxation so attend the Ice Skating Show featuring the famous skaters nosed of Jean Walker, Fern Cornett, and Margaret Cochran After the skating show I met Ronnie Cook, tne owner of a large it was late we caught a cab to his hotel and I was shown to my room by Doris Nichols, who later sent up my baggage by Billy Vannoy and Roland Roberts, tne porters of the hotel The sun uns shining bright the next morning when the chauffeur, Jimmy Hyder, took me to catch the train for Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky where I met Dona Sexton, who was head of the MAGS Corps in charge of a benefit snow for the soldiers On the show I saw Barbara Hollowa and Winnie Bullis in the popular hit number, 'Has Anyone Seen My Guy Next on the show was Mack Whitt and Helen Monarky in the portrayal A G I s Dream Last but not least came Virginia Mitchem, Nannie Linkous, and Verna Stevens in a top event of dancing and singing The smoke circled and changed its course, causing my thoughts wander, and I find myself in the country at the homes of Shirley ienderson and Julia Flippen, who are out shopping at Maxine Lambert's Food Market Let's edge a little closer to that group and see what all the talk is about Gracious, did you hear what I did?
