STELLA COOMER Stella Stellajoined our school this year. She came to us from Gary High School. She is a great asset to our student body. Her favorite subject is shorthand and she plans on going to nurse's school after graduation. BONNIE CORNETT Bonnie Bonnie has been a member of the Band for three years. She is very popular with her class- ID3.t9S. with. SANDRA CROUCH vvsandyfl Sandy has been in the band for three years and became a majorette in the eleventh grade. She is head majorette and is a member of the National Honor Society. Sandy was a member of the Latin Club in the tenth and the eleventh grades. He plans to either study Math or study law after school. He is a member of the S.P.E.C. T M-7 NORMA CROUSE Norma Norma has been a member of the Band for three years. Her favorite subjects are shorthand and democracy. Norma has many friends, and she plans to attend Concord College. RICHARD ELDRETH YVDOCVV Richard has been a member of the Band for three years. He was a member of the Choir in the tenth grade. He plans to enter the business field after graduation. DIANE DIXON Diane Diane has been a majorette and a member of the band for three years. She was voted the Most Talented in her class. Her favorite subject is English and she plans to attend Busi- ness College after graduation. ' SARAH GIARDINA Sarah Sarah was a member of the Band in the tenth and eleventh grades. She was a member of the Choir in the eleventh grade. Fred plans to go into Electronical Engineering, and is a member of the S.P.E.C. MARGARET GOROK Susie Susie's favorite subject is English. She plans on becoming a member of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Susie has many friends and is fun to be with. JOHN CONRAD LIDDLE Connie Connie was a member of the choir in the tenth grade. He also played football in the tenth grade. He was a member ofthe band in the tenth and eleventh grades. He has played basketball for three years. He was voted Best Dressed in his class. Connie plans to join the Air Force after graduation. A K RICHARD MEREDITH Dickie Richard was a member of the basketball team in the tenth grade. His favorite subject is Math and he plans to attend the State Police MARGARET GILLENWATER Margaret Margar et is Secretary-Treasurer of the National Honor Society. She was also a member of the Latin Club in the tenth grade. Her favorite sub- ject is English and she plans to enter Beautician school after graduation. He is a member of the National Honor Society and was voted Most Talented of his class. Sammy plans to be an engineer and is interested in Mathematics. ROBERT MOSHIER vvBObbyu Bobby is one of our outstanding trombone players in the Band. He has been amember for three years. He is chiefly interested in Band music and plans to join the Marine Corps following graduation. JUDY HENDERSON VVJudyYV Judy has been a Band majorette for three years. She was voted Most Athletic of her class. She plans on becoming a physical edu- cation teacher. FRED MCBRIDE vvF1redvv NANCY HONAKER Nancy Nancy is the Vice-president of the Senior Class and held the job of Secretary in the eleventh grade and was her tenthgrade class's represen- tative to the Student Council. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and a member of the Band. She has been a majorette since the eleventh grade. She was also a member of the choir in the tenth and eleventh grades. She plans to go to Roanoke Business College. N 1 SANDRA HYLTON Susie Susie's favorite subject is democracy. She was a member of the National Honor Society in the eleventh grade. She plans to attend a business college or work for the F.B.l. after graduation. CARL McKINNEY llCar1H Car1's favorite subject is typing. He is a very quiet boy. Carl plans to join the service after graduation. JACOB POTTER Jacob Jacob is one of our well liked boys because of his pleasing personality. He was in the science club in the tenth grade, and has such favorites in subjects as bookkeeping, democracy, and mathematics. After finishing school this year he plans to go into the armed forces. JUDY LUKACH VYJudyYY Judy has been a member of the Band for three years. She has been also a majorette for three years. Her favorite subject is typing. He was elected to the All McDowell County team in the eleventh grade. His favorite subject is democracy and he plans on joining the service after graduation. He was active in school affairs there. He is a member of the National Honor Society, and the S.P.E.C. Preach was also voted Most Ambitious of his class. Don played basketball in the eleventh grade. I 1 1' ' Class Hlstory Th1s 1S your l1fe Class of 1960 One br1ght, sunny, September morn1ng 1n 1954 the l1ttle Blue Demons were Jommg forces to prepare for the next s1x years of problems and pleasures All 1nvolVed were f1lled w1th m1xed emot1ons The scared and exc1ted feel1ng whxch were a part of our const1tut1on on th1s day were noth1ng compared to the Jub1lat1on of our Jumor hlgh grad uatlon The t1me had fmally arr1ved we were ready to cross the threshold of a new l1fe The doors of Northfork Elkhorn Hlgh School were opened w1de 1n welcome to the throngs enter1ng from Elkhorn Northfork Jr H1gh and Keystone Jr H1gh As we walked through the doors, we were greeted by the faculty, who were all adorned w1th rad1ant countenances Underneath th1s shmmg glow, they were prepared w1th lectures,concern1ng the metamorphos1s of a f1sh, the geometr1cal theorems, the natural resources of West V1rg1n1a and dear old Jul1us Caesar After we had plowed through th1s work and much, much more we were ready to ass1st the sen1ors of 1959 1n the1r class n1ght Many amus1ng 1nc1dents occured on th1s n1ght One of the most memorable of these was the moment Jr Garbo got a shower whlle the heel off her shoe and her future s1ster 1n law, Lou1se Montgomery, came to her rescue Wh1le on the outs1de, Lou1se Taylor was tak1ng a p1cture of her fr1ends James Harr1son, Jackle R1chardson, Johnny Delomas, Gary Reed, Jerry Foster Fred McBr1de and Ralph Creed As the graduates were paradmg through the arch of flowers Sh1rley Graham s garland toppled 1nto the face of a d1gn1f1ed 1mportant sen1or At long last, the class n1ght and graduat1on of 1959 were m the past We were faced w1th what proved to be the shortest andthe hardest year of our h1gh school days W1th the same sp1r1t w1th wh1ch we had accom pl1shed the task prev1ously ass1gned us, we agam mastered those m th1s our last year The t1me has now arr1ved for our graduat1on f6St1V1t1BS Class n1ght of 1960 The couples have begun arr1v1ng Carl McK1nney and Jean Snow, Tommy Puckett and Sandra Crouch, Fred Caud1ll and Janet Ph1ll1ps, Nolan Adams and Dlane D1xon, Robert Thomas and Teresa Shrader Buddy Tosh and Sandra W1gg1ns Bob Moore and Judy Hender son, Jerry Wh1tt and B1ll1e L1ddle, J xmmy Dalton, and Judy Lukach Buddy Sexton and Judy S1mpl1c1o, Harry Comer and Patsy Church, and Fredd1e Dotson and Carol Bales all arr1ved at about the same t1me and abounded from only three cars IOO . , . . . . . . . , , . . . . watering his garland. W ,I Til? -Q- ,Q 5 s , .WJ 1.4 -,.-A Class Prophecy One night while walking under a clear sky dotted with diamond like stars I began thinking, 'I wonder where all my classmates W111 be and what they will be doing several years from now Then, almost as if 1n answer to my thought, I remembered a little rhyme that all children know Star light Star Bright, First Star I've seen tomght, I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I w1sh tonight As soon as I had said this I seemed to drift into the year 1970 ASI drifted off, I was surrounded by millions of people watch mg a championship league basketball game The first face I re cogmzed was Jerry Cochran, coach of the Kalamozoo World Trotters His players were Robert Thomas George Trent, Vernon Webb, Lenoard Thomas and Harry Comer His famous managers were Paul Forrest and Dennis Roebuck The World Trotter cheer leaders were Sandra Cook, Barbara Brown and the inseparable friends, Charles Kowal1sk1 and Bernard Scott After the game Crelaxmg and reading the paperl, I noticed a headline A Rocket Had Crashed on Pluto The crew members tor, Nolan Adams and stewardesses were Janice Tabor and Sandra Hylton This ship the first of1ts kind to land or crash on a far off planet was designed by none other than Samuel Anthony Mark Morello In smaller print I was relieved to f1nd out a rescue plane hadbeen sent to take care of the injured crew members The rescue squad consisted of Doctor Richard Wilson and his able assistant, Tommy Puckett and their nurses, Nancy Cassell and Stella Coomer Noted medical technologists on the trip were Delores Romeo and Louise Harler Looking over the society page I noticed there had beena contest to select Miss Burlap Sack , contestants were Lana Brabbon, Margaret Mosko, Carol Bales Diane Dixon, and Nancy Honaker There was also a contest for Miss Tank Hill , contes tants in this contest were Sandy Wiggins, Frances Adkins, Sandra Crouch and Judy Henderson As I turned to the advertisements, Inoticed that a sale was going on in town, so I decided to drive dovm As I entered an intersection, there had been an accident Teresa Shrader had wrapped her Ford around a telephone pole and policeman, James Cowan, was inv e stigating Witnessing the accident were Shirley Palmer, Jacob Potter Carl McK1nney, Barbara Lukach, Linda Elgin and James Harrison 112 . . . , . . . ,, . . --,, . . .
