3 34 FRESHMAN DRAMATICS CLUB The Freshman Dramatics Club, under the leadership of Mrs. Roberts, has studied the methods of reading and acting one- act plays. In order to accomplish this, they have divided their literature into three groups-comedy, drama and mys- tery. President: Walter Bliss. DEBATING CLUB The purpose of the Debating Club is to foster an appreciation for intellec'ual discussions. Under the direction of Mr. Fitzsimmons, members participate in live- ly debates during club meetings. The club also is anticipating future debates in the Forensic League. President: Storm Hiorth. ARl0N Our school literary magazine, Arion published four times a year, is sponsored by Mr. Jannarone. Stories, poems, and iokes of literary value written by students of all four classes at Northern Valley are included in each issue. This year the magazine was entered into competition with magazines of other schools. 99

SPORTS CLUB The Sports Club meets every Wednesday' to discuss different sports. They investi- gate the rules and regulations of sports that are of mutual interest to all the mem- bers. Besides these discussions, they also participate in seasonal sports activities. HOSPITALITY CLUB Hospitality Club girls are trained to act as Northern VaIIey's hostesses whenever food service is needed. When guests are entertained by the administration, faculty, or student organizations, the girls, ad- vised by Miss Kennally, perform the necessary culinary duties. President: Nancy Plimpton, Vice-President: Roberta Britnell, Secretary: Camilla Pittner. LITTLE DIPPER The Little Dipper co-edited by Janice Dolt and Jennifer Bobrinko reports about the frosh activities to its readers. The members of the newspaper staff also contribute literature to the Northern Star and Arion magazine. 98

'E llllli i, i t l- l l l i l ' l l HI-Y CLUB The Hi-Y, a boy's service club, is sponsor- ed by Mr. Heintz. The members of the club strive to build good character throughout the school and to support and organize school functions, such as the annual Hi-Y Faculty Game, a service function of the club. They also partici- pate in Hi-Y activities on the County level. President: Jeff Van Zandtg Vice- Presidenty Daniel Kovacsp Secretary: Bob Santo. LIBRARY COUNCIL We are indebted to Mrs. Eileen E. Fortu- nato for her efficient management of the library and the organization of the li- brary Council which meets in the library every Wednesday. Its thirty-five mem- bers assist with the routine library pro- cedures. A trip to the West Point Library is planned and a faculty tea is given annually during Library Week. President: Nancy Bertelsen. FRESHMEN CHEERING CLUB The Freshmen Cheering Club offers any freshman girl an opportunity to learn the standard Northern Valley cheers. Mem- bers of this club usually hope to continue with their cheerleading until they even- tually become members of a cheering squad.
