Northern State is a college definitely on the move. There is afeeling of vibrancy on the cam- pus which has infected faculty and students alike. While there are many evidences of progress at Northern, both in terms of physical expansion and academic excellence, the two that are most readily seen are the array of new buildings and the beautiful campus. Between the summer of 1957 and the summer of 1963, a periodof sixyears, seven new build- ings have been completed and occupied. The total cost of this capital improvement is in ex- cess of 33, 000, 000. This amount is more than three times the capital investment in the plant during the first 56 years of its existence. During the summer of 1964, complete new heating equipment was installed at an approxi- mate cost of SB145,000. Work has been com- pleted on a 5200, 000 addition to the Memorial Union, and in early 1965 work was started on a seventh dormitory which will cost 3540, 000. In addition to this, several hundred thousand dol- PRESIDENT J. HOWARD KRAMER lars has been spent on expansion, remodeling, renovation and repair during the last seven years. But this is only the beginning. Plans have been made to spend 36, 000, 000 in the next ten years on capital con- struction. Approximately one-third of this will be requested in state appropriations and the balance will be bor- rowed. Among the major plant improvements and additions planned are an addition to Lincoln Dining Hall, the completion of the east wing of Mewaldt-Jensen Hall, the expansion of the Administration Building, the construc- tion of three dormitories to house 1200 students, the building of an additional dining hall and the erection of a Sl, 000, 000 classroom building.
