Living expense needs viewed in cost hikes Prices may not have been going up everywhere, but even local merchants were forced to raise some prices to the students at Northern. The campus vending machines still dispensed the same can- dies but, the price went up a full 50 per cent on all of the items. Local hamburger havens, fre- quented by students, didn't always raise the prices for their products but, the pro- ducts often shrank. And gas that was up-again and down-again could have been a problem for the comm uters if not for small cars and car- pooling.
