Korn, Mary Mcliinlay, George McCoy, Ivan Foster and R. L. Herren. The Social Science Depart- ment is an integral part of the course of study of a liberal arts col- lege. Northern is no exception to this rule. Total class enrollment in the ten social science courses offered the first semester equaled 692. The courses making up the social science curriculum are as follows: American History, Oklahoma History, National Government, Principles of Economics, Geography, History of Western Civilization, Sociology, Religious Education, and Psychology. Two of these courses, American History and National Government, are required by state law of all students taking a degree from any college or university in the state of Oklahoma. Social Science courses are included in each curricula offered at Northern. .S Students study with the aid of records ,J A class in geography points out the area concerned 19 in the lesson.

Instructor McCown works a difficult problem for the class. 18 Chemistry students conduct an experiment. x The department of math and science has an enrollment well above 100 in most of the courses offered. These courses include Chemistry, algebra, trigonometry, physics, Zoology, botany, and an anatomy and physiology course. Plans for the near future in- clude the expansion of the chem- istry laboratory and classroom facilities and the possible intro- duction of courses in chemical and electronics technology.

BUSINESS Olin D. Walcher Instructors Clane Kirtley, Pearl Ramsey, Janice London, and Olin Department Chairman Walcher . Some Northern students take one or two business courses such as typing or shorthand to aid them in other classes. Girls enrolled in a Business major usually plan to become secretaries and operate various business machines. Enrollment in the Business De- partment for the fall semester has reached a new post-war high of 180. This amounts to approximately 1X3 of the total daytime enrollment on campus. Men out number women 108-72. The one-year intensive business course continues to prove popular, particularly with the women students. Largest classes this year are Beginning Shorthand, Business Math- ematics, Modern Business and Ac- counting. Still tremendously popu- lar are the classes in Office Machines, of which three sections are now running The Office Practice classroom is now completely electrified, with an electric typewriter available at all 20 student stations.
