HOME ECO OMICS MABEL STRANGE, Department Director W Basic skills such as cooking and sewing are taught to those girls or boys enrolled in these courses. Home Economics girls study combination of colors and designs. 'I2 There is a double future in home e- conomics, for the curriculum has a two- fold purposeg training for attractive careers and preparation for homemaking. These home economics jobs are important to our homes and our way of life-so are the con- tributions of the trained homemaker. College home economics is the stud- dy of the whys as well as the hows of all the aspects of homernaking and family living, plus a good general education for the student's own personal devel- opment. Home economics careers are so vari- ed that one has a wide selection as to the most suitable field of endeavor. There are careers in teaching, extension service, business, institution manage- ment and dietetics, research, health and welfare and homemaking. Areas of study include art ap- plied to the home, child development and family living, clothing and tex- tiles, food and nutrition, home manage- ment and household equipment. NOIC home economics classes include basic courses for all of these areas of study. Specializing will depend upon the stu- dent's career choice and if one is looking for the perfect marriage-career combination, she has a sure thing in the field of home economics.

GRICULT RE Northern's agriculture department was fust organized about eight years ago. There are two main divisions in the department: general animal husbandry and fieldcrops. Courses of study offered are: types and markings of livestock, feeds and feedingg breeds of livestock, basic crop production and soils. Part of the curriculum consists of livestock judging teams which compete at Fort Worth and Houston fat stock shows. The department's lab facilities con- sist of livestock on surrounding farms. It makes use of field crop test plots, which are provided by Oklahoma State University. Throughout the year agriculture stu- dents take educational tours to commer- cial feed lots, stock yards, packing plants, and outstanding farms of pure- bred livestock. BILL CA RMICHAEL Department Director Horsemanship classes teach the student the art of riding and caring for a horse. ,,--v-- .-..-.an M ..,..i-- A Judging teams travel throughout the states to compete in judging livestock, feeds, and soils. 13
