We invited alumni in this area to several meetings. Outside speakers Kincluding our own member, Dr. Halverson, on his European tripl made out programs very interesting. In March, Leonore Isdebski and Lauriann Gant represented our group at the National Convention on the Purdue campus. . We presented our annual freshman award to Geraldine Sundelius for her outstanding scholastic achievement as a freshman.

LEFT TO RIGHT: Donald Hakala, ludy Olson, David Nelson, Mr. Roberts, Glenda Paris, Byron Ren: DEBATE At the end of the year, Northern's Debate Team will have participated in three forensic conferences. Mr. Forest Roberts is advisor to the group. The team took part in the tournament held at Northwestern University February 13 and came out with a high rating. Teams were rated not only on points brought out during discussion or debate but also on the manner of presentation. On March 12 and 13 the debaters participated in the annual Delta Sigma Rho Discussion and Debate Conference, held at the University of Wisconsin. Thirty-three colleges and universities were represented at the conference. On Northern's affirmative team were Glenda Paris and Byron Renz, and on the negative were Don Hakala and David Nelson. The national question for dis- cussion was Resolved: That the United.States Should Adopt a Policy of Free Trade. Byron Renz won first place in the men's division of the Radio Newscasting event at the Delta Sigma Rho Conference. The climax of this seasons debating activities was the Invitational Tour- nament at Central Michigan College on March 27. There were no conventional judges at this tournament but the debaters were rated by the audience and by opponent debaters.

Cory Hartbarqer, lack Fletcher VARSITY N CLUB The men of Northern who have earned major letters in college Spgrts make up the membership of the N Club. Their aim is to promote and back many types of activities at the college. Some of their perennial duties have included ushering, collecting tickets, and passing out programs at school func- tions. Each year the Club collects money at one basketball game for the March of Dimes fund. This year the N Club sponsored two special track meets, one of which was a Conference meet of nearby colleges. In the fall the Club also was host to high school football players at a banquet.
