' ENGLISH CLUB The English Club, which is composed of English majors and minors and other interested students, meets to discuss subjects of common interest to its members. This year, the club's activities have been many and varied. The highlight of the year's activities was a radio program which was written and presented by the members at Christmas time. Other activities included the annual Christ- mas party, theater parties when classical' movies were presented in the city, and a review of Carl Sandburg's book, Always the Young Strangers, The members of the club were guests for social evenings at the homes of the English professors of N.M.lC.E. and were thereby helped to appreciate and understand finer literature, poetry and music in a pleasant, informal manner, The club's activities for 1953-1954 were concluded by a picnic in May,

COMMERCIAL CLUB The Commercial Club is the oldest departmental club on the campus. It was originated in the 1920's and has a long and admirable record in school activities and functions. The club is open to any students majoring or minoring in any phase of business. Its purpose is to bring to students in this field into closer fellowship and to furnish further opportunities for intellectual development. This year the Commercial Club sponsored several projects to raise money for the club. In March, the Commercial Club was represented at Mus- kegon at the Michigan Business Education Association Convention by three seniors. The main project of the Commercial Club was the annual Senior Guest Day, which was held on March 30.

The Don Bottom Chapter of the Future Teachers of America is an organi- zation open to all students at Northern. The purpose of the organization is to interest young people in a teaching career, and to acquaint them with the teaching program. Some of the projects for this year included talks and slides on Mexico and Europe, a talk on cerebral palsy in relation to classroom procedures, and a panel discussion by Northern graduates. F.T.A. members also acted as guides for the Senior Day Program.
